Each year the FFA uses money from the sale of Aggies to finance projects and programs. Aggie sales increased this year when the club added mixed nuts and peanut brittle to the salted peanuts they had always sold. Dennis Wilson and Joel Hale, who at- tended the National Convention in Kan- sas City, Kansas in October. At this con- vention Dennis Wilson, chapter president in the ' 75- ' 76 school year received the American Farmer Degree Award, which was the highest award given at the national convention. Will the real Bluestone band please show up ! “Practice makes perfect — but not perfect attendance, seemed to be the motto of some members of the band. This year approximately forty people were enrolled in sixth period band. However, on the average, only eighteen or twenty showed up for half-time performances during the football season or for the marching in Emporia ' s Annual Peanut Festival Parade or the Christmas Parades in South Boston and Clarksville. The band did try to boost school spirit by playing at the pep rallies, but performances outside of school showed that the band members were the ones who needed a boost. Those band members who did show up to perform worried about being able to make a good showing with such a small number. But band Director, W. D. Conner, always told them to play strongly and to be proud of what they were, because if they did their best, no more and no less, no one could criticize them. After these words of encouragment would come a joke to close the conversation. It would happen that way every time, for that was Mr. Conner, finishing up everything on a note of laughter . . .
