Vice-President Secretary . . . Treasurer . . Reporter . . . ... Judy Griffin Maurice Hendrick Meredith Howerton . Marilyn Yancey . . Phyllis Carter Sponsors: Mrs. Mary V. Wood, Mrs. Bernice Owen, and Mr. Berman Scott Amid dreams of graduation and college, many of the 1960 Bluestone Seniors can be heard saying, ' 1 never thought I would make it this far! Others are saying, ' I ' m being graduated from high school, but I have still at least four more years to go. Although they have taken the lead in the many extra-curricular activities, the seniors have also coped with English 12, French H, U.S. Government, Solid Geometry, Trigo- nometry, Physics, and other difficult subjects. But, if the saying All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy is true, the Seniors are certainly not a dull group. Arrival of class rings and selection of pictures caused much excitement in the fall. College Entrance Exams were taken by many. Graduation, robes and invitations claim much attention, and Senior Day-Off is eagerly being anticipated. Truly, the 86 mem- bers of The Class of ' 60 have vivid memories of a busy year. Victor likes peas? Really, it is physics. SCA OF 59-60 The Student Council had a very interest- ing and rewarding year. First of all, the members on the council were very ambitious and willing to work. They started the Club of the Month” project in which recognition was given to a club that had done outstanding work during the month. Homecoming and May Day were sponsored by the SCA. They helped with other activities carried on by other clubs in the school. This was a successful year for the Student Council, but they could not have done the work without the help and support of the entire student body of Bluestone High School. 63 Johnson Takes Office THE GOLDEN LINK The Golden Link ' s activities for this year have included early circulation campaign be- gun by an assembly program. Several members were sent totheS.I.P.A. last spring in Lexington to obtain new facts and ideas in the production of yearbooks. Although the 1960 Golden Link ' s price was raised this year, the advertising prices remained the same aslastyear. Anadded feature includes the name of each senior on his yearbook. It is the sincere wishof every member of the 1960 Golden Link staff that this yearbook will present all the happy memories of the 1959-1960 school year in their most vivid forms. In district competition they ranked well up the ladder in the final standings as they posted a 4-3 record. Victories were heartily wel- comed as the Barons set back Park View, Buckingham, Cumberland, and Randolph Henry to defeat. Hustle, attitude, will to win, and careful guidance of Coach Scogin and Coach McPherson was the formula of the Baron success through- out the season. The ' 59 season can be looked upon as a stepping stone along the way from weak- Bar on teams of the past to strong teams of the future. As a result of hard work and great determination onthepartof every member of the Bluestone Basketball squad, the Barons are tasting the most successful basketball season in the history of the school. From the first day practice began it was evident that the team had its goal set on improving last year ' s record and eventually gaining a position in the district tournament. The squad is well balanced and any member is capable of leading the team to victory on a given night. This balance was brought to light early in the season when Bluestone upset the perennial district champions Buckingham on the latter s home court. This victory was accomplished with out the services of high scoring Donnie Fahringeer, on the sick list then, and proved the over-all ability of the entire team. The Bluestone Barons of 1959-1960 finished fifth in the district ranking and became Bluestone ' s first district tournament team. Even though the Barons were defeated by the powerful Buckingham team, whom they had defeated earlier in the season, they made a fine showing at the tournament. This in itself shows that basketball wise, Bluestone is looking up and that in the future, the Bluestone Barons will be a team to watch in district competition. 97 Co-Captain Tommy Johnson Co-Captain Jimmy Gill m Pi Bill Russell Wayne Garner 98 Richard Burnette Hughes Roberts Gordon Eubank Harold Elliott Eugene Morris Johnny Woodson Larry Chandler J.V.
