Tau Kappa Epsilon was founded as the Knights of Classic Lore on january 10, 1899, at Illinois Wesleyan University, the out growth of an idea first expressed by ministerial stu- dent joseph L. Settles for an organization which should aid development of character and ability of its members. The present name was adopted in September, 1902 with acquisition of the first fraternity house on campus, Nationalization was proclaimed in a new constitution, February 15, 1909 and two months later a local was chartered at Millikin.
