We have developed from the days when transportation was by foot on trails that were washed away, to today when man travels at supersonic speeds in the air. The two-hundred years of our nation's progress has been marked in every aspect of the American life. Nothing but the characteristics on which our nation was built have stood still. Today, as then, the American works to understand himself and others. He seeks to find tI'Ll6 peace and harmony. Time has seen us learn to live and love one another, as we strive together for such desires as freedom and equality. Bluefield State College is characteristic of the American culture. The past eighty- one years that it has been in existence have shown great improvements in the educational as well as social status. Life, here, has not stood still. It has progressed today in enrollment as well as in the expansion of its curriculum. The population of Bluefield State College has worked hard to maintain the high goals that represent the American dream. For this reason, we present the i Bluefield State Blueprint for the students and faculty of Bluefield State College. , 0 The spirit of the United States was derived by the combined effort of many people in their strive for unification. Active participation in the fight for freedom was illustrated by the Boston Tea Party, the Continental Congresses, Paul Revereis ride, as well as in the battles themselves. People were unafraid to become involved. Today, the importance of becoming involved is shown in every aspect of life at BSC. It is true that the active participation in organi- zations has decreased, but even with this decrease there is still student involvement. This involvement is seen in the small gath- ering of friends in the Student Union over lunch, the sharing of thoughts and cokes in the Basic Science Building, as Well as the continuous conversing of students between classes. This is the way life at Bluefield State College is . . . It is people sharing, planning, hoping, and dreaming. T H xsfii ' 3 N -- aigmmk ,. W zifii X r 1 x J 1 .lx 5, 1 .-.Q , :mtl W7 Pu 1 aw! One must remember though that this was a young team, a team consisting of 28 freshmen of 40 on the squad. There were, however, a few bright spots in this dismal year that helped ease the pain: john Monroe gained 1000 yards, Glen Tabor was named to the WVIAC All-Conference defen- sive team, and Lawrence Pockets Hall led the team in return yardage. The Blues finished the season with a 1-9 record, their only victory coming against Homecoming foe West Virginia State. The Blues won 19-14, defeating a far more powerful W. Va. State team. Football, like any other game, is a game of winning and losing. The only way to separate a good team from a great team is how well they bounce back from defeat. We hope next year the Blues and coaches Mick Watson, Tony Zvonar, Mike Maser, Bob Hedrick, and Aaron Saunders will be able to bounce back from a bad year and be successful in the next. 'liz'-mv? Monroe accounted for nearly half the total yardage gained this year by the Bluefield State offense. Not only can Monroe run the ball, he can also block. ,Iohn's dev- astating blocks cleared running backs A. J, jackson and Irv Hall for productive runs. The big fullback hails from Logan High School in Logan, West Virginia. john, one of two Seniors on the squad, was the backbone of the team, carrying the ball almost every other play. Moose, as he is called, is 6'3 and weighs 225 pounds. He is one of the strongest and most powerful members on the squad. The Blues then loo very impressive in wins against Lynchburg and Morris Harvey. officiating resulted in a 117-105 setback in Pikeville, Kentucky. got back on the winning track by downing Beckley and Concord, winning their own tournament. West Virginia State proved to be very tough on their own co shooting an unbelievable 60W and downing the Blues handily 1 89. Archie Talley scored 51 points in a magnificent effort, but Blues, led by String Harris' 43 points, were too much for the Tige The Blues downed Davis and Elkins easily, but that was the c before the storm . . . Two conference losses to W. Va. State and Wheeling, two easy wins over hapless West Liberty and Lynchb and then the cruncher with two tough losses, one to Shepherd 95- and one to top-ranked Fairmont 96-84. The season cannot be looked at with dismay nor great iubilati Great performances were expected of a young and inexperien team. They gave it all they had and did a great job, and have potential to do so in the future. g K- xR 1 4. I , X - 1 vmwvf' I.
