Leaders V '55 In the shortyear that Mr. George Erps has been assistant principal at Bluefield High School, he has shown his readiness to serve the individual student as well as the school. Through his diligentsupervision, he has earned the respect of students and teachers alike. They regard him as a counselor and a disciplinarian, but above all--- a friend. His newly initiated ideas are the future of BHS, and because of the en- thusiasm with which he enacts them, they will become an in- tegral part of our school policy. We, the students of Blue- field High School, can never begin to thank him for his end- less effort and unparalleled example. 11

Qfl ULU' Dear Students: My first word is one of appreciation for the fine young people who make up our student body. You are involved in a very important period in your own lives and one of deep interest to your parents and to your school. Aristotle once said: The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet. Aristotle was saying, real enjoyment will come from a job well done--a task pursued to completion. Be sure that you are a good school citizen, that you are courteous and considerate, both in and out of school. Carry with you the good name of the school and your actions will reflect credit on it. Take pride in your school and its achievements, be loyal to the school and its traditions. Then Bluefield High School will be a better place because you have attended it. ,I Sincerely yours, R. L. Arrington yo

After the verb 'to 1ove,' 'to help' is the most beautiful verb in the world. Baroness Bertha von Suttner During our three shortyears at B1uefieldHigh School, we, as students face many momentous decisions that will determine the course of our later lives. To direct us in these choices-- especially those of future education and career--and to guide us in the formation of our personal ideals are the services of Miss Louise Light, our guidance counselor. Through her warm sin- cerity and understanding, each of us may receive extra motivation for success. Her devotion and responsibility prove Miss Light to be one of the best-liked and most valuable members of our administrative staff. I2
