We somehow imagine a summer to be a technicolor illusion which can be found only in our dreams. ...00 ...00 ...00 ...00' ...00' ..00i ...00' ...00' ...00' ...00' ..000' ..00' ...00' ...00' ...00' ...00' ..00' ...00' ..00' ...00' ...00' :.00 ..00' ••••I ; ;;;;;;;;;; ; ; ; ; : ; ; : ; ; i • , • ••••••••••••••••••• • •• I • I I • 0 0 0 •• • • • • •• • • t i t t i i t i i i i i i i i 1 i i i i 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 C 9 V •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••a • ............................. 3 1 elcome to KANSA AAidwa U. The class of 1981 will always remember that summer as the last they spent as high school students. ‘■••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••a •••••••••••••••••••••••••••■••••••••••••••••••••••a ••••••••••••••••••••••••§•••••••§§•••••••••••••••••••• ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••I ..•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••a ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••I -------------------------••••••••••••• 6 7 I REfflEOTBER 1980 Summer is a time for reflecting upon the past. But however far we are from Big City life, progression is inevitable. How long will it be before our country landscape becomes a strip of fast food places, neon lights, four lane highways and shopping malls ? Take a good long look, and say goodbye to Stilwell. FIRST QLRRCE RRERI The sun will come out Tomorrow Bet your bottom dollar that Tomorrow there’ll be sun! Just thinkin' about Tomorrow Clears away the cobwebs and the Sorrow till there’s none. When I'm stuck with a day that’s gray and lonely I just stick out my chin and grin and say: Oh! Every cloud has a silver lining. Looking ahead into our future, we see only the clouds, like a summer storm. We see only the problems and troubles, and anticipate the bad things that could happen. But we must look beyond the clouds, and wait to see what the future will bring. Look for that silver lining, and wait ... U WAIT TILL TT?E 14 CLOBBS ROLL BY Oh can't you see the morning after? It's wailing right outside the storm. Why don't we cross the bridge together and find the place that's safe and warm. There's got to be a morning after We're moving closer to the shore. I know we'll be there by tomorrow And we'll escape the darkness — We won't be searching anymore! zt « I And so the summer must end, like everything else, and we enter the Fall. This year. Reflections will focus on the tour seasons of the year. We will look at the important events as they happened. We will remember the year of 19SO as e turn the pages of this book. The Yearbook taft hopes you enjoy the new format. We wish you only the best of luck in the years to come, but whatever happens next in your life, never forget this special school year. I -V rrs The 1980-81 tiger football team displayed a tremendous amount of leadership and experience this season. Coach Long began his position as head coach in 1977, the same year the team's graduating seniors began their high school football careers. For the past four years the seniors and Coach Long have established a tradition of winning seasons. This may be attributed to the following. 1. Approximately 90% of all the players were active in the weight lifting program this summer. The program ran from July I until school began. The players participated three days a week. 2. Coach Long also commented on the fact that not only did the majority of players participate in the summer weight lifting program, but also contributed a lot towards individual workouts. There has been a lot of dedication put forth in the last four years, and we'll be seeing more of the same in the next four. V; 55? Freshman Team. First Row: Chris Todd. Carl Pfaff. Rich Wiser. Leading the players, as well as the students, in spirit, the cheerleaders added a lot of excitement and enthusiasm at the games and pep rallies. This included selling carnations, preparing the halftime show, and decorating for the dance. Throughout the year Stuco sponsored two spirit weeks, two dances, and the traveling trophy. Mrs. Wint-mer, the sponsor, stated, The success of Student Council depends upon the involvement of its members. At halftime, the 1980 Homecoming Royalty was presented. Student Council changed the procedings a little this year. There were five Homecoming Queen candidates this year, and they (along with the Class Princesses) were escorted onto the field by their fathers or a friend of the family. Desira Coleman was crowned 1980 Homecoming Queen. She and her court were presented once again at the dance the next night. This year's Tiger Volleyball Team was really rolling. This year the team had a tough time getting on its feet, but this was due to in-experience of the younger players. Towards the end of the season they really started to flow together .. As a team they really got to know each other better, said Coach Watson. There were several new transfer students that came to the team, causing unfamiliarity among the players. Near the end of the season the girls became closer, after getting to know each other better, and became more relaxed. Coach Watson also stated that the team struggled with the inconsistancy of good and bad games, but that does not reflect how the team played as a whole. Varsity Team. First Row; B. Child. B. Brown. One of the fastest growing sports today is Soccer and Blue Valley’s got it! The increasing interest in the game of soccer has caused a growth in size, as the team entered its second year this season. The team was young, but dedicated. They played with the feelings of confidence and motivation. Next year’s team will have more age and experience behind them, which should create an even finer team than what we had. commented Coach Graham. Soccer is a game of fun and enjoyment. Despite how fun it may look, it takes skill and knowhow. All the players on the team were totally dedicated. They worked hard, studied hard, and played well together. The girl's golf team broke their own state record of 324 with a 320 at St. Andrews Golf Course. Coach Taylor commented that the team's record will not be broken for quite a while. They won all eight of the tournaments they entered. Winning regionals for the fourth time, the team proved that they were the best in the state. This year’s Cross Country Team was one of the largest in Blue Valley history. The members worked well together. Individually, they ran approximately 300 to 300 miles this season. The team entered 8 meets. The runners put everything they had into their running. The practices consisted of running not only on the track and roads, but also through fields. Coach McDonald commented. They worked hard and it showed. Varsity Team. First Row: Greg Augenstein. Diana Dahl. Gail Ganser. Collin Thompson. Tracy Johnson, ratty Nelson. Gabi Aclunus. Todd Shaw. At the beginning of the year the freshmen elected class officers. Their class sponsor was Mrs. Vandree. The 1984 class sold candles during the winter and had a car wash in the spring to raise money. One of the goals the officers set was to enlarge atten-dence at freshmen sport’s events. Altogether it was a very good year for them, some of the freshmen commented, Being a freshmen is hard and different. Todd Shaw I am glad that I only have to be a freshmen one year. They had only to decide which jeans and cowboys boots to wear. Today's Sophomores had to decide whether to wear Vanderbilt's. Calvin’s, or Sassoons. And the biggest problem facing boys was whether they are ready for Skoal and Red Man. The Sophomores were no longer the youngest in the school, but they had two more years of high school left. It was like being stuck in second gear. Dear lord, thank you for bringing us together Michele Abbott Blair Adam Hilary Adams Larry Adams Mark Alexander Debbie Arneson Hermit the frog! Then several went on to compete at State competition. Mr. Shepard has done an excellent job with Forensics in the past, and the program has benefitted a great deal from his talents and expertise.
