Eighth grade earth science students study the ever-changing earth and the energy forces which produce the changes. Ninth grade is exposed to a class in introductory physical science. This is a problem solving course in which students develop a general concept of the particle nature of matter from data gathered in laboratory experimenta- tion. The main purpose of social studies classes is to give students a better appreciation of their heritage and a clearer understanding of some of the things which have shaped America. The 8th grade classes begin with the discovery and exploration of America and continue through the Civil War. Emphasis is placed on important periods in the development of the country. The 9th graders enter a more in-depth study of the United States from 1865 to the present. Students have the opportunity to discuss problems of the world today, the role of the United States and to keep abreast of current events. Junior high students have a number of options open to them when selecting a math course Eighth graders can take Algebra I or mathematics. Mathematics is designed for the majority of the eighth graders in that it offers a broad range of ideas and concepts. Algebra I is also offered. Emphasis is placed upon basic algebraic concepts and skills, and reasoning Mr. Richard Wood Mathematics, Functional Math Univ. of Missouri, B.S. and discovery are encouraged. This class is also offered to ninth graders, along with general math and functional math. Both of these help prepare the students for the understanding of arithmetic they will need. Geometry is available to students desiring a more advanced knowledge of the mathematical system and who have been successful in previous math courses. l l l
