Communications Mrs. Fran Keal Mr. Brad Mayfield Creative Drama Communications I 81 ll UMKC, B.S., M.A. CMSU, B.S. Both the communications and creative drama classes provide students with experiences in talking with and in front of groups of people. Both courses utilize many group activities which enhance commun- ication skills. Communications classes are concerned with parliamentary procedure, public speaking, debate, drama, and oral interpretation. Also included are some play productions and experience with a speech tournament. The creative drama classes learn verbal and non-verbal communication skills. This is an activity oriented course which usually produces a group of short plays by the end of the semester.

At the eighth grade level there is an emphasis on grammar as well as development of sentences and paragraphs. Ninth graders alsq study grammar and they participate in the creativeyjllspects of writing. Spanish is available to 9th graders, and French can be taken by those in both grade levels. Students in Spanish I classes learn to listen, speak, read, and write in simple Spanish. A vocabulary of about 500 words is known at the end of the year. Customs and 'culture of Spanish speaking people is also studied. French I is an introduction to this language. Along with study of the basic skills, students are introduced to French art, music, foods, and civilization. A continuation of this basic knowledge is given in French ll.
