H fav T P I p vm H 1 FOOTBALL--1945 The 1945 football season started when practice was called Sept. 7, with fifty six boys reporting for practice. Coach Bishop cut the squad down to three teams. We had seven returning' lettermen. They were walls, Kissling, Jones, Dwyer, Scarborough, McGuire, and Journagan. A The season started with the Wildcats defeating North Kansas City'l2 to O. The touch- downs were made by walls and Bilquist. The starting lineup was, LE-Kissling, LT-Scar- borough, LG-Jones, C-Curfman, RG4Wig1e5w0rth, RT-Dwyer, RE-Zook, QB-Wells, HB-McGuire, HB- Journagan, FB-Bilquist. The next game was played with Grain Valley and the Wildcats held Grain Valley scorless to the score of 26 to O. Each of the four backfield men got a touchdown. l We next played Pleasant Hill on our own field and the game ended with the score 6 to 6. The touchdown was made by Kissling after catching a pass in the enzone., In the next game the Wildcats met their first defeat on,a muddy field at Harrison- ville. The score was 7 to O. Next the'Wildcats handed Buckner a decisive victory holding the Buckner Redskins with out 3 touchdgwnt The Score was 25 tg 0, 'Wells counted for 2 touchdowns and Uournagan got the other two. The Wildcats next met the undefeated Lee's Summit Tigers and with McGuire catching a pass and outrunning the whole Leefs Summit team, getting the only touchdown scored on the Tigers this season. T H Gur next opponet was Ruhl Hartman and the Wildcats was defeated for the third time of the season. Our team was greatly weakened with the loss of our quarter back, Bud Wells, For our last game of the season the Wildcats went to Raytown but were greatly handi- capped with the loss of Bud wells and Roy Journagan. we think Howard Richards should be complimented on the way he called the game as substitute quarter back. The Wildcats were defeated 27 to O. V T The following men received letters in football: wells, McGuire, Paxton,Dwyer, Jones, Scarborough, Bilquist, Journagan, Zook, Kissling, Wiglesworth, Curfman, Bogk, Morrison, Brown, Richards, Neeley, Neimeyer, Pare. Bud walls and Vernon McGuire were elected Co-Cap- tains for the football season. ' u 2?
