Q21 Miss Mary Beth Kirby, who expresses vivacity and a charming personality Q51 Miss Ada Ruth Powers, for her expression of sweetness and charm. fMiss Powers hides much of her beauty under a bushel of hair, wearing it much too full. As a result, rather than emphasizing her natural good looks, the style shown in her photograph detracts from her face.J Q41 Miss Betty Lou Basham, for the high ideals and sincerity reflected in her face. It was, indeed, a pleasure for me to note how completely natural each of the young ladies keeps her beauty, and each is to be highly complimented in this respect. Please know how very much I enjoyed the privilege of acting as judge for your contest. We can certainly say that this class has come a long way since then--and in the right direction. Looking back, we find that, the class has completed its primary task, academic accom- plishment, with flying colors. The Srs. have climaxed four years of high scholastic standing by placing more than half the class on the honor roll. 'This record speaks for itself. Aside from being self-admitted inte1lects,the Srs. have been an active group in all extra-curricular activities. Looking into the athletic records, we find Seniors everyplace. The football squad has been augmented by class members for the past four years, and has always placed more than one man on the first eleven. For the past two years, the team has virtually been made up of boys of the class of '46, Two class members, Vernon McGuire and Lyle Wells, were co-captains their final year. On the basketball team we find boys of this class since their Freshman year, and, as in football, the team has consisted largely of class members for the past two seasons. The honorary co-captaincy has been held by the class members for the past two years, with Lewis and Kissling elected last year and Morris and Kissling this year. Mary Beth Kirby and Pat Putthoff were our feminine basketeers, with Kirby elected co-captain this year. We also find numerous class members on the softball teams. Now let us consider the journalistic accomplishments of the class of '46. We find that this yearbook has been published entirely by Srs. under the very able direction of our editor, Irma Ruth Minton, and her assistant, Roma Lee Sappenfield. Our school paper, the Crier, is published primarily by Srs. this year. It has been acclaimed as among the best within the conference. Herbert Kissling headed the staff with untiring effort, ably assisted by Jean Baker as assistant editor. In the field of Student Government, we find H46ersn holding six of the twelve Student Council positions. The Student body elected Lyle Wells-President, Vernon McGuire-Vice President, Pat Putthoff-Secretary, and Eileen McCarthy-Treasurer. Roma Lee Sappenfield and Charles Lewis round out the half-dozen class elected representatives. Introducing new activities and perpetuating old ones, the council has been very active this year. In the field of public speaking and dramatics we find that the class presented two excellent plays under the direction of Mrs. Bartholomees. In addition, our actresses and actors during the past two'years have participated on the one-act plays, which placed. high in the conference contests. Lyle Wells and Herbert Kissling have represented B. S. H.S. in original orations for the-past two years, while Jean Baker and Roma lee Sappenfield have represented the school in dramatic readings, and Marion Greene represented the Senior class in humorous readings. The debate team, ranking third and second in the conference, has been made up entirely of class members since its beginning in 1945. Three members from our class have been chosen Cheerleaders--Belva Dean Keck and Mary Beth Kirby for two years, and Vernon McGuire for one year. Q When it came to the highlight of the Jr. year, the presentation of the Jr. Sr. Banquet and Prom, the class was no less a auspicious. Aided and directed by Mr. Bethards, Mrs. Dwyer, and Mr. Turner, the class gave one of the best Banquet-Proms ever presented by a class of this high school. It was a Plantation Party, the decorations created home and garden, complete with spacious veranda and pillars. The entire occasion was one which will be long remembered. The music department has been greatly strengthened by the Srs. of '46, both in solo and group work. ' The Class of '46 has had for its president for four years Lyle Wells, and they have also expressed their confidence in Pat Putthoff, by electing her secretary for four years. We find Vernon McGuire as vice-president for three years, Herb Kissling taking the vice- presidency his Jr. year. Roma Lee Sappenfield and Irma Ruth Minton guarded the important class strong-box very competently. Our representatives for the Student Council have been Pat Putthoff, Herb Kissling, Belva Dean Keck, Roma Lee Sappenfield, Charles Lewis, Vernon McGuire, and Marianne Rogers. The Class of 1946 has completed its high school career with an enviable record-- a record of which they and the school may be proud. They leave behind them some of the best friends and happiest days that they shall know. May they be glad that they have made their high school days a time upon which they can reflect proudly in the future. Though the class may be broken by the divergent paths which the various members choose to follcw, the fraternal friendship and loyalty which has developed during these past four years among all the members of this class will be cherished.. Last but not least, we find that the class is noted for its beautiful girls. We had as Souvenir queens, Belva Dean Keck and Marianne Rogers, and as Candidates Pat Putthoff and Mary Beth Kirby. Lyle Wells was chosen most popular boy of B.S.H.S. in '42. Escorts for the Class of '45 were Eileen McCarthy and Vernon McGuire. 36- Q ,JMXM MW' W f MMM? LWW WM W 04 . 3743!
