V f Q - - 'Cyn 5 i y yt 1 lj? if I 0' A 0 M,m9 Back in the good old days of bobby socks and sloppy joe sweaters a class of freshman.entered school. Everything was new to them. They elected class offi- cars, Lyle Wells being president, Vernon McGuire vice-president, Pat Putthoff secretary and Roma Lee Sappenfield, treasurer. The year whirled by. Lyle well. was elected most popular boy in school. Their Sophomore year, being more accustomed to this new life, the class soon fell into the usual routine. Not many changes were made in officers. Pat Putthoff was secretary and treasurer combined. Belva Dean Keck was elected cheer leader. She also won the distinction of Souvenir Queen. The year was highlighted by the presentation of a stage show. Amatures and professionals alike were entered. The year whizzed along on the wing of the ages. The class entered high school this year, at last, as upper classmen. These juniors have been very busy making money for the banquet. On November 17. after weeks of hard work, I ll the Junior play Spring P-ever' was presented. Mary yi' Beth Kirby was elected oheeralender, and Marianne Rogers as candidate for Souvenir Queen. For class officers Lyle Wells was re-elected president for a third term, Herbert Kissling was elected vice- president, Pat Putthoff also had to serve a third term as secretary, and Irma Ruth Minton was elected treasurer. This class has always gone all out for extra-curricular activities. The first team boys basketball was made up completely of Juniors. The beautiful girls in the class could be seen many a hot, sunny day taking military drilling out on the football field. R The,Wildcats started the l9hh football season with avirtually an inexperienced squad. The team was built around five returning letter meng Wells, Limbocker, Basham, Stebbins, and Leamon. There were many who lacked oxperience but not the fight, however seemed as if when everything be- gan to look fine, a player would get injured or move away. We started the season against the Lee's Summit Tigers with a jittery Blue Springs team. After the boys got used to playi g together, Lee's Sum it could not gain ground. Both teams used hard line plays. Though we played hard, the Tigers came out on top by a lj to O score. The next week the Buckner Redskins met us on the home gridiron. we went into this game with high hopes. This was another rough game, but Blue Springs came out ahead 2h to 7. In the last two minutes Coach Sears sent in the second team line. On the first play Wells threw Limbocker a pass which was good for a touchdown. The line held excellently. Ruhl-Hartman being our next opponent we expected to get a bad defeat. The Ruhl-Hartman team showed plenty of spirit and fight. Though we got the ball within the 5 yard line three times, we were unable to score. Ruhl-Hartman only threatened once. Pushing hard in the last quarter, they were also unable to reach pay dirt. This game ended in a O-O deadlock. we tackled the Bluejays of Raytown on their field next. After getting off to a fine start we could not hold air half tine lead of 12 to O. The Raytown team won 18 to 12. Our next game was a rnghm game with Pleasant Hill on their field. The game started with Pleasant Hill receiving the kickoff. They started hard but we finally stopped them. practically for the rest of the game. With perfect running, passing, and kicking we piled up a 55 to 0 score. Then came six man football. This was something new to the coach and several of the players. Most of the players did ict take much interest in this game, and when we met Henrietta on our own field, we were defeated O to li. Back to ll man football again, we net Buckner on their field under the lights. we got off to a bad start, Buckner scoring first. Then the Wildcats took the ball on a powerful offense which 1'16tt6d them H 'G0'10hdown tying the score at 7-7. But Buclmer scored again before the half making the midway score lb-7.
