Not all Schools have as complete a faculty as Blue springs. nt this time I want to express the sincere gratitude of each and every student of the student body to the faculty for the hours of hard thought, energy, and effort they have willingly expended in order that we might get and education. Mr. west, our superintendent is a newcomer this year at Blue Springs High School. We wish to ccngradulate him on the splendid work he has done here this past year. Before coming to Blue Spring as superintendent Mr. West was a lst Lieutenant in the U. S. Army. Besides supervising the school Mr. West teaches mathematics and some physical education. ' Hrs. Bartholcmees is one of our Hole standbysug she has been with us for several years. After graduating from Missouri University in 1941 Miss wells, she was then , came to B.S.H.S. to begin her teaching career, but it was rudely interrupted by a great disaster- ---- MARRIAGE. Mrs. Bar- tnolomees then departed from our alma mater to spend a year and half with the lucky bridegroom who is now a Major in the U. 5. army overseas. Mrs. Bartholomees canw back to us then this yeah She is our principal and teaches English and dramatics with some speech and debate work thrown in for good measure. Mr. Bethards is our all-around man. If you have anything you went done,Just notify Mr. Bethards he can do anything and everything from making a baby buggy to driving a school bus. Besides tea- ching shop and driving a school bus, he teaches american History, mechanical drawing, Keeps stu- dy hall, and as a side line supervises s me of the physical education classes. Mrs. Dwyer is a new member of our faculty but not of our community. Happily she agreed to re- place Mrs. Lewis this year in the home economics department. ,Although we miss our old friend , Mrs. Lewis we are proud of the wonderful work mrs. Dwyer is doing in her foods, clothing and bi- ology classes. Miss Newland heads our commercial department. She has established a fine reputation during her first year on our faculty as a diligent worker. In addition to her regular duties she spends much time on the school publications. hr. Sears e native of Glasgow is now teaching here at Blue Springs. He teaches world history, citizenship and keeps study hall. Also coaches lthletics. Besides our faculty we want to thank Miss Graham for her aasiduity in preforming her secretorial job, and Mr. Hutchins for his hard work as custodian and general handy man. Lyle well. was elected most popular boy in school. Their Sophomore year, being more accustomed to this new life, the class soon fell into the usual routine. Not many changes were made in officers. Pat Putthoff was secretary and treasurer combined. Belva Dean Keck was elected cheer leader. She also won the distinction of Souvenir Queen. The year was highlighted by the presentation of a stage show. Amatures and professionals alike were entered. The year whizzed along on the wing of the ages. The class entered high school this year, at last, as upper classmen. These juniors have been very busy making money for the banquet. On November 17. after weeks of hard work, I ll the Junior play Spring P-ever' was presented. Mary yi' Beth Kirby was elected oheeralender, and Marianne Rogers as candidate for Souvenir Queen. For class officers Lyle Wells was re-elected president for a third term, Herbert Kissling was elected vice- president, Pat Putthoff also had to serve a third term as secretary, and Irma Ruth Minton was elected treasurer. This class has always gone all out for extra-curricular activities. The first team boys basketball was made up completely of Juniors. The beautiful girls in the class could be seen many a hot, sunny day taking military drilling out on the football field. They still wear bobby soaks, flashy sweaters, and next year they hope to be seniors. 14 !2:i:1i.Zi:'5'.'aa n4:,1 -'im mu'-11:-.. lvl- S I.' ..1f . R The,Wildcats started the l9hh football season with avirtually an inexperienced squad. The team was built around five returning letter meng Wells, Limbocker, Basham, Stebbins, and Leamon. There were many who lacked oxperience but not the fight, however seemed as if when everything be- gan to look fine, a player would get injured or move away. We started the season against the Lee's Summit Tigers with a jittery Blue Springs team. After the boys got used to playi g together, Lee's Sum it could not gain ground. Both teams used hard line plays. Though we played hard, the Tigers came out on top by a lj to O score. The next week the Buckner Redskins met us on the home gridiron. we went into this game with high hopes. This was another rough game, but Blue Springs came out ahead 2h to 7. In the last two minutes Coach Sears sent in the second team line. On the first play Wells threw Limbocker a pass which was good for a touchdown. The line held excellently. Ruhl-Hartman being our next opponent we expected to get a bad defeat. The Ruhl-Hartman team showed plenty of spirit and fight. Though we got the ball within the 5 yard line three times, we were unable to score. Ruhl-Hartman only threatened once. Pushing hard in the last quarter, they were also unable to reach pay dirt. This game ended in a O-O deadlock. we tackled the Bluejays of Raytown on their field next. After getting off to a fine start we could not hold air half tine lead of 12 to O. The Raytown team won 18 to 12. Our next game was a rnghm game with Pleasant Hill on their field. The game started with Pleasant Hill receiving the kickoff. They started hard but we finally stopped them. practically for the rest of the game. With perfect running, passing, and kicking we piled up a 55 to 0 score. Then came six man football. This was something new to the coach and several of the players. Most of the players did ict take much interest in this game, and when we met Henrietta on our own field, we were defeated O to li. Back to ll man football again, we net Buckner on their field under the lights. we got off to a bad start, Buckner scoring first. Then the Wildcats took the ball on a powerful offense which 1'16tt6d them H 'G0'10hdown tying the score at 7-7. But Buclmer scored again before the half making the midway score lb-7. Letter men this year were Kissling, Leamon, Kellerman, Bray, Morris, Basham, Journagan, and 'gel-is, Limbgcker, Jones, Boone, McGuire, Dwyer, and Stebbins. Af ggi' ABLE Aon s 45 3 u AM v 50 January 1945 Miss Betty Hall Editor of 'Souvenir' Blue Springs High School Blue Springs, Missouri. Dear Miss Hall: It was a pleasure to select the Beauty Queen for the Blue Springs High School Yearbook, uSouvenirn. The contest was very close between Maud Morris, Sophomore, and Marianne Rogers, Junior. There is much to be said for the individual beauty. of each of these two girls, so totally different in type. It was very difficult to make a decision based on the single pictures submitted, and were I Apollo, I should probably give an apple to each, but judging only from the evidence of the submitted photographs, I believe that Miss Marianne Rogers should be the winner. All four of these girls are charming examples of young American womanhood. Sincerely, s Cecil B. deM1lle CBdM-C U ..,.,-'. ..,.,,..K.. However we do think we are an important part of the student body, and we modestly submit the following evidences of our achievements: Sophomore members of the Crier Staff are: Bill Dwyer, Howard Richards, Patty Portwood, Jean Baker, l and Peggy Brownfield. GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM Left to right-back row-Mary Lou Pressly, Maud Morris, Betty Burkhardt, Peggy Brownfield, Pat McCarthy, NOrma Lee Nichols, Mary Beth Kirby, Mary Sheets, Barbara Crawford, Louise Todt, Mn Sears, Mary Lou Beyers, and Sue Callaway. The Blue Springs.Wildkittens started out the season quite handicaped by lack of experi- ence. Mary Lou Beyers was the only one of the first team of the preceding year. The first call for basketball practice saw twenty girls report, of which Sue Callaway, Mary Beth Kirby Betty Burkhardt, and Elma June Arthur were returning letter men. Maud Mbrris, Peggy Brown- field, Louise Todt, Mary Lou Pressly, Norma Lee Nichols, Mary Sheets, and Barbara Crawford made up the first twelve for the year. The season opened with the Kittens in a newly formed conference called the Mhd-West.The opposition in the new conference was a little tough for the Kittens, they won 3 games, tied l, and lost 4. The conference tournament was held at Ruskin, the Kittens lost their first game against Center 27-22 and then went in to the consolation bracket opposite Belton. The Kittens defeated Belton easily with a score of 59-22. They then played Harrisonville in the consolation finals. Harrisonvilledefeated Blue Springs by one point. In the last quarter Beyers and Burkhardt fouled out with the team only one point ahead. Harriscnville scored a- nother basket and won the gane 25-24. Betty Burkhardt made all-star. The first game of the season was with Bates City whom the Kittens defeated 59-21. The entire squad saw action. The second game saw our old rival, Grain Valley, lose by only one point. 40 to 59. The season was up and down from then on. Blue Springs held its Seventh Annual Invitational Tournament in February. The first game in the tournament was with Bates City whom the Kittens defeated: the second with Plea- sant Hill whom we also defeated, this placed the Kittens in the finals to play Ruskin for championship. Ruskin being the better team defeated Blue Springs and took first. The Kithns took second. Betty Burkhardt made all-star. We also entered the Lee's Summit and Pleasant Hill tournaments but lost out in the fi- nal session of each. Sue Callaway made the all-star team in both tournaments. The season record reads lO victories, 9 defeats, and 1 tie. The team scored 680 points to their opponents, 620 points. -They averaged 40 points per game. 23 , .. - . . , - - - .,., -.-.-- --.f.- --.' -H'-feirivwvm pf.:1,1-A,.-,:1:z':zf?1'.1f...4..-..---f--fe-ff . , -.. , , V Lettered 1 yr points ' 45 fouls Wells Lettered 5 145 points Z8 fouls yrs K1SSl1Hg Lettered 2 yrs 126 pO1HtS 29 fouls Dwyer T Z0 points Z6 fouls Morris Lettered 1 yr FS points Stebbins Lettered 1 yr. 56 Lewis Lettered 2 yrs 115 points 19 fouls 24 45 fouls Jones ettered 1 yr 18 points 5 fouls Boone Lettered 1 yr 2 points Sfmus ' , . Bud wells, Eerby Kissling, Hollis Stebbins, Charles lewis, and lawerence Lbrris. ' we opened the season against Manual High of Kansas City. Being outclassed, the Wildcats made a good showing. At the end of the third quarter-wefwere ahead three points. Manual led at the end, 28-20. In our next game we beat Grain Valley 39-35. s Though the records are not good they show that we will probably have an excellent team next year., The Wildcats attended three tournaments- this year. The first, the Pleasant Hill Tburna- nent, was unsuccessful. We won an easy game from Garden City, than lost to Adrian. In our own tournament, we lost our first game to the Haskell Indians. This placed us in the consolation bradket. we won our second game from Henrietta. Our third game was won at Pam-day's expense. Playing for , ' consolation championship, we lost to Center. A. sponsored a Brush Creek Follies program early last fall and cleared two hundred and twenty five dollars. Two hundred dollars was spent for library books for both grade and high school and with the remainder a cot was bought to be used at school in case of accident or illness. The P. T. A. con- tributed 21315 towards the March of Dames. x The group served a very lovely banquet for the school lettermen and is looking forward to serving the Junior-Senior banquet. It has always been the policy of the Blue Springs P. T. A. to cooperate with the school in every way possible and champion the needs of children everywhere.
