cifucfsnf Uounci uHear ye! Hear yeiu is the familiar sound that may be heard in the stud- ent council court room at the school kangaroo court. This is one of the numerous things that the student council has started at our school this year. A constitution, which they hope will be carried on through the years, has been set up for the student body. The council has sponsored parties and mixers and has drafted traffic regulations which are en- forced by the kangaroo court. In this way we hope to bolster school spirit and lead to the student's becoming more closely connected as they plan together. As our school year draws to a close, we find our activities progressing smoothly in a spirit of co-operation. The student body has a feeling of unity within their groups, as students help promote school activities and find pleasure in their work. Nancy Lowe, Junior Pressly, and Maxine Minter have served as officers of our student council this year. We want to say, nThanks,n to them for their excellent work in helping organize our student government. 22

This year the clothing class is composed of sixteen sophomore ghds. During the first four weeks of school, the girls studied personal grooming. Each one learned what make-up and style of clothing were best suited to her personality. In addit- ion to using a machin constructing garments, each learned how to choose pat- terns, colors, and fabric wisely according to the suit- ability of the person and the occasion. Such essential knowledge as how to sew on buttons, make buttonholes and bind edges was acquired. Each class member is required to makes two garments per quarter and to use three dif ferent fabrics. e and onzs conomica At the beginning of the year 16 pupils enroll- ed for foods class. we were divided into pairs for laboratory work, and each couple has a complete set of cooking utensils. Because of the rationing of sugar and the shortage of other foods, we are limited -as to the foods we can cook. Therefore, we are learning much about making small amounts of foods and using our left overs into dif ferent dishes and to so alon f ways. So far this year we have served in groups of four. While we were cooking desserts we made Cup Cakes for the P.T.A. Founders Day Tea. With our Sponsor, Mrs Lewis, we expect to accom- plish a lot this year, 24
