C, 86-10 11 39 3 DEDICA TION To the man, who in his years of tire¬ less service to our school, has been instrumental in making Blue Ridge School the fine institution it is today. This year’s annual staff wishes to ded¬ icate the 1967 ICON to our devoted headmaster, Mr. Joseph E. Singletary BOARD OF TRUSTEES John M. Preston James W. Duff C. G. Gunter Vice-Chairman Dr. 1. A. Owings VV. P. Buyck J. E. Singletary Sec.-Treas. Not Pictured W. H. Morrison Henry B. Simpson Rev. Walter O. Roberts Mrs. R. E. Ebert Herbert A. Meyer ADMINISTRATION JOSEPH E. SINGLETARY HEADMASTER A.B. Davidson College; A.M. University of Virginia. E ach time I observe a rainbow I am impressed anew with the amazing fact that those seven colors of light combine to form ordinary sunlight, which has no color at all. In a similar way I like to think of the school as composed of students and teachers of varying talents, aptitudes, and abilities, each in his own way making a distinctive contribution toward formation of an effective unit. If each contributes accord¬ ing to his ability, everyone involved can take pride in the result, and the school as a whole becomes some¬ thing greater than the sum of its parts, an institution of which each will always consider himself a part because he has given to it a part of himself. Blue Ridge wishes to foster the wholesome discipline which leads each one to give his maximum effort and thus experience maximum development. Mr. Singletary JOHN M. PRESTON DEAN University of North Carolina; Clemson University; A.B. Wofford College. In his Inaugural Address President Kennedy said, Ask not what your country can do for you—Ask what you can do for your country.” At a time when the seniors of Blue Ridge School go on to advance themselves through various en¬ deavors, this statement would be well remembered. Ask yourselves what have I accomplished? What have I con¬ tributed? How have I improved myself and the world around me? Strive always to come up with a positive answer never a negative answer to these questions. Strive to be men that your parents, your school, your country, and mostly your¬ selves, can be proud of. IN CONCLUSION The class of 1967, confronted with new duties and responsi¬ bilities, was charged with setting an example for underclassmen and carrying on the traditions of our school. Concentrating their efforts during the final year of preparation, the seniors readied themselves for the important transition to college life. , . These young men shall leave Blue Ridge and enter a waiting world, which they shall view with that mature insight gained only through knowledge. With the class of 1967 goes the burden that accompanies priviledge and the satisfaction brought by true accomplishment. 41 LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT WOODARD leaves his card playing abilities to BARBERY CAHILL leaves his laissez-faire capitalism to DUD WESLEY leaves his newspaper editorship to LYNCH REYNOLDS leaves his nothing to everybody ROPER leaves his pictures to HOLLINGSWORTH REA leaves his Spanish grades to GRASSHOPPER ALSUP leaves his sheepskin vest to PEEPLES DREW leaves his dating ability to BOHMER RUSS leaves his drumsticks to SHERYL PACE leaves his VW to EGG TURNER leaves his conceit to QUILEZ YARBOROUGH leaves his glue to HAYES KINNEY leaves his nose-guard to BRADDISH EVERETT leaves his HASCIENDA to the hell-raisers CORN leaves his track shoes to MOLL SENIOR SUPERLATIVES FRIENDLIEST Bob Rea BEST DRESSED Johnny Russ BEST PERSONALITY Chris Drew 43 MOST ATHLETIC Jack Kinney BEST LOOKING Julien Roper MOST POPULAR Steve Wesley SENIOR SUPERLATIVES WITTIEST Steve Wesley BEST ALL AROUND Bill Woodard POST GRADUATES HARRY K.
