The Fentons had an unused shack behind their house which suddenly became a much wanted item. Sherry wanted it for her club house. Andy wanted it for a boathouse. Mr. Fenton wanted it for an office. Elmer tried to rent it for himself and his dogs. Mrs. Harrison would have liked it for a chicken-coop. Fay came home with her fiance, who was a novelist, and planned to use the 'Rough House for his work. James planned to use it for a home for himself and his bride. It was all easily settled when Uncle Ford announced that he had sold a worthless u-act of land by giving the buyer the Rough House to 'hole up in' while he built a better place. The cast consisted of five members: Joan Leslie played Mrs. Winthrop, Warren Slocum her nephewg Roy Proctor, Steve Craig, her lawyerg Julie Horton, Linda Norton, a newspaper reporterg Janice Darrow, her secretary and nurse. The setting was in an upstairs room in Winthrop Hall. It was a dingy room with a huge window, very sparsely furnished. Mrs. Winthrop had killed her husband and was planning to have her nephew, Walter, committed to an insane asylum because she wanted the insurance money and her house for herself. Linda Norton, who was in love with Walter, visited Winthrop Hall and discovered the murder. In the attempt to make Mrs. Winthrop confess, she tried to strangle Linda. She failed and as always the violator was brought to justice. a S a IN A SPIN A Comedy in Three Acts The play took place in the main room of the Winta' Wonderland Hotel Jack E . aston, who had the same name as a famous ski champion, and Sam Winters came to the hotel with the idea of being able to sell some of their ski equipment if people thou ht th 8 CY were connected with the ski champ. Tobias North and his wife, Claribel, with their daughter, Nancy, came to the hotel when they heard the great Jack Easton was there, Mr. North wanted him to endorse his ski equipment also. The idea of a ski meet came up because of some rumors that the guest in the hotel wasn't the real Jack Easton. To e meet anyway. Marriage Counselor Men! Ugh, I hate them? 71' , called Mr. G. While welcoming Priscilla Sanders to our class, we also said good-bye to James Galloway, Sandra Hawk, Beverly Warnstorff, and Dorothy Boucher. The class officers we elected were as follows: President, Robin Zurng Vice President, J on McHugh: Secretary, Margaret Sine, Treasurer, Joanne Tomeo By selling fudge, hot dogs, taffy and paying class dues we were able to enlarge our treasury. With regrets of leaving our old 'Alma Mater, we looked fcxward to our Junior year in Hallstead, which would mean the third step of our climb toward success. This year the Hallstead and Great Bend classes again combined. Many friendships came into being. Our class officers were: President, John Joyce, Vice President, Robin Zurng Secretary, Peggy Holtzman, Treasurer, Arlene House. Mr. Soop was our homeroom teacher and sponsor. During the year we sold stationery. In the first part of t.he year, we ordered our rings and after waiting anxiously, we were rewarded in the first week of December. Ronald Booth, George Chamberlain, and Eddie Sackett left us this year. George enlisted in the Army and Eddie enlisted in the Marines. As vacation approached, everyone was pleased as we had succeeded in our Junior year efforts and had completed this rung of our Ladder of success. Now, we have arrived at the last rung. At long last our Senior year had become a reality. It seemed odd to be the oldest in the school, but we soon became accustomed to it. The cast of our Senior Play, which was postponed in our Junior year, soon started work on Girl Crazy, a Western. It proved to be a very appealing and successful production. We sponsored candy sales and roller skating. This fall Bob Weaver and Linda Keene joined our class and proved them- selves to be worthy additions. However, we lost two members: Gail Eaton became Mrs, Wayne Moore, and Rachel Welch became Mrs. James Galloway. Our class officers were: President, John Joyce, Vice President, Mary Baglino, Secretary, Joyce Walkerg Treasurer, Peggy Holtzman, The top rung is at last in sight. Although we regret the thought of leaving school, we eagerly look forward to making our way down the path of life. Our Washington trip, Class Night, Baccalaureate, and Commencement will soon be here and will quickly pass. Our Ladder to Success is complete at last. I I As seniors, in our last year at Blue Ridge High, we gained Jacqueline Knapik and Maureen Condmg DeLaine Empett left us. A lso not with us this year was Dorothy Page, whose death during the summer was received with sadness by all of us. The class officers have been: President - Don Carey, Vice President - George Stanton, Secretary - Julie Horton, and Treasurer - Ioan Leslie. We have been under the guidance of Mr. Setar and our class advisor, Mr. Zielenski. One of our problems has been raising enough money to go to Washington, D. C. We discovered that selling candy and ice cream, holding our play, In a Spin, directed by Mr. Larry Smith, and our dances, the Harvest Ball' and the Valentine Dance, wouldn't be enough, so we undertook several extra projects such as selling stationery, etc. Now we are looking forward to the trip in March. HALLSTEAD We started our Freshman year by electing class officers: President, Douglas Snowy Vice President, Barb Mowersg Treasurer, Larry Donahue. After getting used to the schedule, we settled down to our classes and homework with Mr. Byrd as our homeroom teacher. We were all pleased with the idea of roller skating in the Great Bend gym, sponsored by the Senior Class. Many friends were made between the schools because of it. Another interest was Latin I, our only elective subject. We celebrated our passing grade nine at the end Of the year by spending a day at Rocky Glenn. The first rung of our ladder to success had been achieved. Sophomores! At last we were really in Senior High. We were sorry to see Barbara Mowers leave us in the first part of the year, to live in Florida. The class gave her a Going Away party at Arlene House's. Carol Woodruff joined us this year, but left in the latter part. Election of officers found Bob Raymond to be President, Peggy Holtzrnan as Vice President: Doug Snow as Secretary, and Joyce Walker as Treasurer. Most everyone liked Biology and the Commercial students enjoyed classes with Miss Callabro. Latin II was made very interesting by Miss Demer, who came from the Great Bend school to teach Latin, English, and literattue. Again we spent a day at Rocky Glenn at the close of the year. The second rung had been achieved. GREAT BEND At long last we had reached our first step of the ladder, which would carry us through high school. We welcomed four new members to our class: Judy Babcock, Dorothy Boucher, Beverly Warnstorff, and Helen Stark, who left us a few months later. Under the leadership of our civics teacher, Mrs. Culnane, we elected class officers who were: President, Jon Mcl-lughg Vice President, Robin Zurng Secretary, Mary Baglino. After a long hard, but worthwhile climb, our second step came into view. Under the title of sophcxnores, we reached the second rung of our ladder to achievement. Little did we know that this would be one of the most enjoyable years of high school under the capable sponsorship of Mr. Giangrieco, popularly 71 ' NEW MILFORD Have you ever felt you 've really reached your destination? Well, that's how the New Milford class of '58 felt when it entered the 9th Grade. This was it! We were all grown up and big kids now. Sixty of us were under the supervi- sion of Mr. Clair Young and Miss Artemis Veras in our first year of high school. We were: Myra Wheeler, Betty Chandler, Earl Clinton, Maureen Condon, DeLaine Empett, Barbara Burdick, Fred Garrehy, Paul Houlihan, Bob Harrell, Preston Ralston, Joe Moore, Don Glatzel, George Stanton, Don Whitney, Brenda Walworth, Pat Anderson, Joyce McConnell, Don Groover, George Burdick, Clifton Rose, Eugenia Birtch, Sandy Burns, Ray Sutton, Don Shibley, Don Carey, Janice Darrow, Shirley Abbott, Donna Griffin, Karen Yeisley, Georgianna Stebbins Mary Potter, Julie Horton, Nancy Bradley, Bertha Meanor, Roy Proctor, Joan Leslie, and Carl Smith. Twenty-one new recruits from Jackson were: Audrey Peck, Dorothy Page, Barbara Manning, Carmen Cosentino, Robert Allen, Alice Slocum, Ida Cottrell, Katherine Freitag, Frances Anderson, Paul Bailey, Glen Wilmarth, Gene White, John Barron, Warren Slocum, Eric Ziemann, Hermann Zappe, Gerald Holbrook, Bill Barron, Dan Cody, Richard Klim, and Gordon Wayman. Also new to our class were Wayne Jocelyn and James Gaughn. Ida Cottrell, Gerald Holbrook, Gordon Wayman. James Gaughn, and Richard Klim were with us for only a part of this year. We enjoyed becoming acquainted with our new classmates, and in June we went to Rocky Glen together. In 1955, Mrs. Lois Kingsley 'and Mr. Emory Stanley greeted our oversized sophomore class, and helped us to the completion of another successful year. George Stanton became our class President, Roy Proctor our Vice President, Joan Leslie our Secretary, and DeLaine Empett our Treasurer. This year we lost Barbara Burdick, Frances Anderson, Gene White, Glen Wilmarth, and Fred Garrehyg also Bill Barron who enlisted in the Navy. Gudrun Hentschel was the only addition to our class. This year, under the guidance of Mrs. Kingsley, we learned to conduct a court trial. Dan Cody is the man to ask about the results! The big event of the year was our Christmas dance, It's Christmas in New Milfcrd, which name was taken from the song by Michael Martin. Mr. Martin was our special guest. Again in June we happily departed from New Milford High on a bus headed for Rocky Glen. We began our junior year under the guidance of Mr. Powell and Mr. Stanley. When Mr. Stanley became the Elementary Principal of Blue Ridge and our build- ing principal, Mr. Setar took his place. Donald Shibley rejoined us after a brief stay in Hop Bottom. Class officers this year were: President - Don Carey, Vice President - Paul Houlihan, Secretary - Julie Horton, and Treasurer - DeLaine Empett. The big events of this year for us were our plays, Roughly Speaking and High Window, directed by Mr. Powell, our St. Patrick's Dance, and our Prom, Stardust, Goody Hentschel was the queen of the prom. This year, Don Groover, Paul Bailey, Mary Potter, Betty Chandler, Bob Allen, Joyce McConnell, and Maureen Condon left us. The saddest event of the year was the death of one of our members, Joseph Moore, who had been with us since the first grade. Q NZM x R.
