TIIUISDAY, JUNE 3, 1954 ' SEVIN Six eighboring chool Districts Agree T To Blue Mountain chlool Jolinture The second school jointure ln the county was iformed List Thursday evening in the local high school when representatives .of six neigrboring school districts unanimously approved a joint school system which will be known as 'the -Blue Mountain School System. Districts joining together are Cressona, Orwigsburg, Ring- gold, Wayne Township, East Brunswick township, and North Manheim township. The main purpose of the join- ture, as outilined in the articles of agreement entered into by the above six districts, is the furn- ishing of the best possible educa- tional opportunities for the child- ren of these districts. . At meetings of the lboards of school directors of each of the dis- .tricts in their official minutes, .each of the boards authorized by a majority vote the articles of ilgreernent. The joint board in session, by amajority vote of each board, authorized the pxecu- tion of the articles of agrement. Included in the articles of agree- C3 ii ment are the following highlights: The ojint school system shall be operated by the joint board of school directors in accordance with the 'school laws of Pennsyl- vania in such buildings that may be erected for the purpose, effec- tive the first Monday of July, 1954. All costs of current expense for the joint school system shall be divided among the school districts on a pro-rata basis is proportion to the average daily memberships of children attending the schools of the joint system from each of the districts. Pupils from North Manheim Township who are currently at- tending the schools of Schuylkill Haven may continue to attend at the expense of North Manheim township. Pupils from North Manheim township attending Schuylkill Haven schools shall be Limited to that area of the townshkn from which they are now assigned. 5 mitted to attend the 'Ihmaqua borough schools until graduation. Tranqmortation contracts which do not expire until 156 shall bex continued with their present dit- tricts until the expiration date and the costs of such contracts shall be borne of those districts which originally executed the con- tracts. During the first year of cpera- tion of the joint school system an accurate population study shall be made at the Cost of the joint board which shall determine pro' spective 'enrollments through the school year 1960-1961. Such pqm- lation study ,as well as geograph- ical factors shall be used to de- termine 'building needs for the adequate housing and education of the pupils in the joint school system. The menber districts of the joint school system shall, by the end of the second year of oper- ation. agree on size and location of buildings needed and utiliza- tion of present buildings.
