T. Lowrey has been pres- B ident of Blue lilountain College. That he is eminently E5 qualified for being a college president is shown by the fact that during his presidency of Blue lVIountain College the Mississippi Baptist College at Clinton, lVIississippi, called him to its presidency, where he remained for thirteen years, L after which he was recalled to resume his position as head of Blue Mountain College. i Under his leadership our college has steadily advanced, until today it stands in the front ranks of Southern colleges for women. Dr. Lowrey has ever held a lofty place in the affection and appre- ciation of his students. As the head of the college he has exhibited qualities of executive ability and leadership that have largely made the institution what it is today. As a teacher in the college, he has shown high scholarship and teach- ing ability. As a man, the girls have ever admired him as the embodiment of all that is chivalrous and manly and noble, and in him they have ever found a sympathetic friend and a fatherly counselor. For a Blue Mountain girl, wherever he may meet her, he has a kindly light in his eye, a cordial hand-grasp, and a bright, cheery word, and it is easy to see that for them his great heart beatsiwith genuine, affectionate interest. We desire, in this simple way, to place this modest crown upon the brow of our honored and beloved president. r Q-agp 'bb-nu-.., Page twelve 1 lllll Ill , xwamxulxxmunl un llhul0,,,lll sx ' 0 Olin Cl77lee7' s y 3 05 Eilif, . l if I V Y gg- , A Z do qJL!N,A 0 il Vllllllllllllllllll IllIllIIllIllllIlIllIllIllIIIllllIIllllllIIItllnllllIlIIlllllllmllnlnulmux dlllllinm IHIHHHHIHINWXS5 llllnmlIInIllIllInIIInulllmllllulllllllllllllllllllllll lllllilllllllnllulnulllnlllun' .nf V' 0 ' COLLEGE OFFICIALS Mr. C. ' o Senior Sapientia E, the seniors, looking back over the years, and realizing the bitter mis- f takes we have made, think it would be eminently appropriate toaoffer some K advice to our younger and untried sisters which may help them along the DQR way. We only wish that long ago some kindly soul had taken a like 6 interest in us-alas! how many missteps we might have avoided. Follow 00 carefully, and from the depths of our experience we promise you that you'll I never have cause to regret it. If, when providentially hindered, you may have come to History with- out giving your lesson the traditional once-over, don't become upset if Mr. Guyton should question you too closely, but laugh merrily all the while, and tell him some amusing little anecdote. ' Sometimes when you have a few minutes to spare, instead of giving yourself up to selfish pleasures, why not go into the library, and, stepping over to where Miss Pattie sits, suggest that you would love to help her entertain the girls-especially some of the freshmen, who, with misguided notions of the use to which a library should be put, may have come in for the purpose of consulting lexicons. A thoughtful spirit like that is, we must confess, rare, and therefore much appreciated. Tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth on every occasion, if you're dumb enough to do it. i lf, some night during study period, you should leave your friends to step across the hall on the errand of borrowing butter, and should meet Mrs. Berry on the threshold, do not lose your poise, but rather, remembering the valuable lessons received from Mrs. fe Lowrey, greet her cordially, beg her to excuse you, insist on her partaking of just a few sardines, and explaining that you won't be gone a minute, proceed blithely on your .Q W 2 ,.,,ggrnission. The Athletic Association has long fostered this spirit, and has been the cause of a great many contests that have served greatly to stimulate the interest of the girls in this direction. This organization has advanced rapidly in the last few years, under the direction of Mr. Roswell Lowrey, who, by his chapel talks, has inculcated a. fine spirit of sportsmanship in the girls. The main contributions of the Associations have been in spirit rather than in material equip- ment, yet last year they donated two tennis courts, and this year, a new diving board. Many exciting games took place last year, each society coming off with equal honorsg the Modenian team got their letters in basketball, the Eunomians in swimming, and the Euzelians came off second in both.' This year saw the Euzelians victors in basketball, and each society is expectantly awaiting triumph in the swimming contest. ' In tennis last year, Louise Lemaster and Josephine Trotter won the doubles from the freshmen. Some stirring games are expected this year. Two new teams have recently been added to the athletic forces-the Bulldogs and the HTigCfS 9 their names alone are enough to warrant a lively scrap when they meet in deadly combat, and the school is awaiting the issue with a great deal of interest. The Snail! Once upon a time thcrc was a snail, who started to Mrs. Bcrry's talk. Up the walk this Snail came at a pace, until it reached the fountain, and it decided that relaxation was necessary. Tap-tap-tap, tap, tap! sounded the bell in the distance, and the Snail's memory was shocked and its senses revived, so on it crept. I-Iurryl, hurry! came a voice, but this Snail was coming as fast as possible. Up the steps it slowly walked, into the door it came. Uh-h! arose a chorus of voices, and the Snail longed to retreat, but too late-too late-for a voice said: Why are you ten minutes late? Mrs. Berry, I started when I knew that the bell had rung. I was 'way back in the B. G. Yes, honey, but snails always come at your pace.
