I made my departure, and as I drove through Webfoot County, I notlced a blllboard sign It read uChuckling Charlie's Chlcken Farmn Try our exotic eggs, rugged roosters, and our happy hens Call Mudwater 2085 Yes, Charles Brldgman had reached h1S goal After I had V1S1t6d w1th Charles for a short t1me, I cont1nued my lonely Journey In the city of Gopher Gulch, I began to search for a respectable hotel So intent was I upon th1s search, that I fa1led to see the red l1ght at the first intersectlon that I came t Therefore, I soon heard the mournful walling of a police car the arrival of the keeper of the law Strlding toward me was a tall, broad shouldered, law enforcement off1cer It was Elbie Baughman, the pleasant persuasive policeman of Gopher ulch After pleading 1n va1n, I accepted my ticket a d drove to the County Courthouse There I pleaded my case before the calm, stone- faced Judge, who was not 1n the least moved by my story of my thlrteen s1ck chlldren and m domineering mother in law No, Hack Mericle was a man of duty, and my story did not lmpress h1m inths least After payxng the flue of 22 cents, I asked where a hotel could be found Judge H8P1C18 1nformed me that one was located a short way down the street Rapldly I walked down the street, until I saw a l rge neon slgn advert1sing the uParkv1ew Plazan I walked in and saw a pretty blonde lady at the desk Yes, lt was Bertha Holt who owned this magn1ficent establlshment. After exchanging pleasant greetings, Bertha rang for the bellbcy Almost instantly a small, cheerful, angellc indlvidual appeared at my elbow. It was the bellboy, who worked day after day for his belovedmudres Benny Wattelet always d1d have a strong sense of duty. Even in h1gh school, he was known among his classmates as the merry mortlcian With superhuman strength he transported my baggage to my room and wa1ted hopefully for the dlme which I finallymtrustei to his possession. 111 J! o.
