A full time school nurse was obtained for this year and an automatic press for the print shop was obtained permitting the printing of the school paper, The Red and Wfhite, twice a month. If you did, you'd see three people working busily at their desks. Doing most of the bookkeeping, Miss Babcock at the end of a day sees figures before her eyes, and we give Mrs. Berger plen ty of work when our report cards go out. She also takes care of our switchboard besides being a receptionist. Miss Muller who is Mrs. Richards secretary is always busy, for you know how busy Mrs. Richards is. We all appre- ciate this staff for their kind help and their advice whenever it's needed. FACULTY ADVISORY BOARD We're proud of these instructors cooperating with Mrs. Richards in drafting plans for bettering our school functions or improving our school activities. They also plan our school budgets, approve council members, and recommend honor students. To a happy year of successful memories we extend our thanks. Looking back at this year, remember the solid,' music at the socials, those hit programs of the year put on by students, being able to hear Major and Mrs. Richards speak to us, and our school programs each month? Each time these special' occasions would come up, a group of boys would be seen busily wiring a mike here and there and setting up some entertaining music with their new records for a social. It isn't easy to become a member of this organization, but we certainly have a successful club this year under the sponsorship of Mr. Ames. Thanks boys! CON TRIBUTIVE PRO CLUB Alan Ladd-in a chemistry film? This is something to look into. It was shown by our obliging pro club members and their sponsor, Mr. Ingersoll. This club has helped to make our periods and subjects more interesting and easier to understand. Going through the halls some ninth period, remember your sur- prise in seeing a dark room? It was just the members running through their new films they had to show classes next day, and they did have fun. We appreciate it too, pro club members and Mr. Ingersoll. STUDIOUS LIBRARIANS Five minutes before a bell and books are piled over the library desk, many of them just being returned in time before that deadline. Quite a job t0 straighten all those books out again, but our librarians do it for us and with Miss Haebieh get them back on the shelf for someone else to use them. Not an easy job, but the girls find enjoyment working wiuh the other students and helping to keep our library running smoothly. But, who else can play Judy Graves like she can? Yes, for an entire day pert Gertrude Snell, our Junior Miss had the whole school in an uproar but the show must go on and Gertrude gave a grand performance on the Seymour-Whitter stage that night. Nancy Anderson, as her fiendish pal, Fluffy early in the play had the audience in a tremor at that familar knock on the door, and and Lois Ely as Charming Lois, the big sister, turned the hearts of feminine spectators envious at her seemingly endless procession of beaux. Smartly-clad Catherine Hall as Mama Graves would have made any daughter proud, and her handsome husband, Thomas Kaliski, made Judy and Lois a fine father, when he wasn't busy avoiding Fluffy's chatter or translating Lois' telephone calls. Nancy Kough, as Hilda, showed us a new side to her character as the sarcastic maid and thfe role of Joe, the elevator boy who was always receiving complaints about roller skates, proved perfect to the talent of Charles Parker. The love-interest was aptly filled by dashing Bill Dunlap QWillis Reynoldsj and his auburn-haired fiancee. Rosemary MaeHenry fEllen Curtisj. Blustering Richard Reuss, as Ellenis father QJ. B. In eight starts the Gutches' warriors emerged victorious in five games, while losing three. In the initial game the team was pitted against the heavy York Gridders. Playing against the odds and a sea of mud our boys lmeld York scoreless, 7 to 0. Thornton our perenial foes, was the subject of our next engagement and after a very hotly contested 48 minutes they walked from the gridiron on the heavy end of a 12 to 6 score. Blue Island came back. Playing its best game of the season we met and beat Calumet City 13 to 0. It was the first time in 18 years a Blue Island squad walked off the Calumet City field victorious. Lockport and Argo were disposed of in decisive fashion, the former ending 12 to 0 and the latter 13 to 6. Argo, however, was a trying ball club and went down fighting. In the next two encounters Blue Island met its second and third defeats. The second at the hands of KKK which was lost in the last 20 seconds of play 18-14 and the third at the hands of Bloom 20 to 0. In this game our squad just couldn't seem to get going and their efforts awarded naught. In the final game of the season the Cardinals routed Kelly, a city school of the central league. 63 to 0. This day, in the reverse of the onsliaught with Bloom, everything seemed to click and the foreign aggregation proved little competition for our warriors. One interesting and outstanding fact is that four of the eight teams played were unable to score against the Cardinals which speaks Well of their defense. Many regulars and reserve players will be lost by graduation, and this loss will be keenly felt in organizing next year's team. Co-captain Howie XVilson led the league in scoring and his prowess on the field was recognized when he was chosen on the All-Conference team. Eddie Marrone, mainstay of Blue Island defensive operations, and Frank Strand mainstay in the line for the past two seasons were also picked on the mystic dream team, the former at guard and the latter at end. Frank Bonham was chosen on the Second team. Luscombe who played a stellar position at end, caught most of Blue Island touchdown passes. Erickson, his fine blocking and kicking will be hard to replace. Walker, Miller, Morrone and Wiltshire in the line and Hopf in the backfield form the rest of the graduating lettermen. I-Iowever with lettermen like Bonham, Driver, Heir-le, Krueger and Selke and gr number of rg- serves returning in addition to some 25 Sophomore boys, we all feel sure that Mr. Gutches as head Coach and Driver and Fuhr as assistants Blue Island will again place 11 winning Cornbination on the gridiron next fall. You by now perhaps have been thru many kinds of chapels, . . and always a unity and benediction of peace has come to you. With humble hearts we can but little thank you for peace you and your buddies preserve thru out our world 5 may this chapel now be a symbol of peace for you, your home and life, as time approaches. This is our wish from day to day g in our hearts we say, We, too, we in small measure tho' it be Keep faith with all that's good for mankind and all time, We think and pray, and act and hope, and strive for happiness and joy That will be ours as we are all together again. All of us are waiting for these men to come home, When we too can live like we did once before In a world of Peace, Of Happiness. To that day when the sun will finally rise above the density of clouds, And burst forth into rays of individual happinessg We patiently wait that clay of their return: Patiently we wait For them!
