New methods are adopted when they are found to be of value to the pupils. An effort is made to increase the pupils' ability to express them- selves both in oral and in written discourse. It endeavors to give the student an individual experience in the practice of democracy.

SGIE AND MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENTS The Science and Mathematics UUMMERUIAL The objectives of the commercial depart- ment are two fold: first, it provides contribu- tion to training for citizenship, intelligent consumption, and general economic intelli- gence and understanding with special em- phasis on the social organization known as business. Second, it makes a contribution to voca- tional business skills and activities for which there is a definite need of vocational training. Although in reality two departments in NUE departments have a definite mis- sion to fulfill in the educational scheme of any school. They strive to develop reflective think- ing rather than to encourage idle reverie. The art of clear thinking is not essential to living, but it is extremely essential to enioy- able and complete human living. The mathematician, engineer, doctor, and professional person need it developed to the highest degree. But everyone lives more satisfactorily according to the de- gree to which he has developed this art within himself.
