PATTERN Fllll lillllll GUVERNMENT Since the early days of the United States of America, it has been a guiding principle that efficient and competent governing of the national state depends on the combined efforts of those participating in that govern- ment. The precept that a good government is the result of good administra- tion applies to school management as well as to management of affairs of state. The efficiency with which Community High School operates is due largely to the cooperation of the students, the Board of Education, the superintendent, and the citizens in forming something of a miniature democratic state which functions smoothly to render the greatest good for all concerned. 1 Ilugu Eigbl V 5.3 ADMINISTRATION it The Board of Education consists of five representative citizens elected from the school district. After selecting a superintendent in whose hands the immediate control and supervision of the school rests, the board sits as a group to exercise the final authority in matters of school policy and finance. Members of the I-ligh School Board for the year l94O-l94I are: Dr. Frank W. Tracy, linsetl serv- ing his first yearg Emil I. Blatt, Secretary lupper rightl elected in I'-9273 Fred I-lohman, lupper leftl elected in l9383 Mr. Louis Bieden- kopf llovver rightl, member from Worth: and Clifford L. Aulwurm, completing his fifth year with the group. Supt. H. L. Richards dictates a letter to his secretary, Miss Lois Muller, as part of the daily routine of directing the activities of l,36O pupils and 47 teachers. Under Mr. Richards' capable management, the school has added many practical courses to meet the needs of the students, and developed a rich pro- gram of extra-curricular activitiesg likewise, in l94O-l94I a complete revision of the curriculum was be- gun to adapt the course of study to train the student more ade- quately for the complex society of today. The class principals, appointed by lvlr. Richards, attend to details of discipline and attendance and act as chairman of the class sponsors. From right to left we find C. B. Price, Freshman Class: Rufus Caauwe, Sophomore Classg Birt Frobish, junior Class, and C, E, Ames, Senior Class.
