PATTERN Fllll lillllll GUVERNMENT Since the early days of the United States of America, it has been a guiding principle that efficient and competent governing of the national state depends on the combined efforts of those participating in that govern- ment. The precept that a good government is the result of good administra- tion applies to school management as well as to management of affairs of state. The efficiency with which Community High School operates is due largely to the cooperation of the students, the Board of Education, the superintendent, and the citizens in forming something of a miniature democratic state which functions smoothly to render the greatest good for all concerned. The citizens of Blue Island indirectly control the operation of the school The local citizens elect the Board of Education which in turn elects the superintendent who is responsible to its members Although the immediate responsibility rests with the superintendent he delegates authority to a legislative group of faculty members and students All work together in a constant effort to improve the school and increase its benefits to the community BLUE ISLAND CITY HALL SYMBOL GOOD GOVERNMENT I9 . i OF .,....-W A J I N g , Q . . o3:..i:5AM.7 ,R Vw , A rw t , ww. SENIORS LOOK FORWARD TO ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP A SALUTE T0 ALL AMERICANS The Chips staff of l94l and the students of Community High School take this oppor- tunity of expressing their deep appreciation to those who have made possible the great and successful experiment in democracy, the United States, and the resulting benefits it offers. To repay in some small measure our inestimable debt of gratitude we dedicate Chips, l94l, first, to the pioneers of America who first instilled in American hearts the hope of freedom, the conviction of the neces- sity for constantly fighting for freedom, and the realization that the liberties we value so much are secured only by an enlightened citizenry. Secondly, we dedicate this book to our alumni-those who left this school with the thoughts and ideals that only American method of education can implant in the im- pressionable hearts and minds of youth. We have no doubt that Community High School has sent forth only capable citizens to whom our present classes are indebted for an ex- ample to follovv when they, too, have com- pleted their apprenticeship and go forth to use without further guidance the tools of democracy. Thirdly, vve dedicate Chips, l94l, to our intelligent citizens who have realized the value of democracy, realized it must be earned and re-earned many times before we can hope to sit back and rest on our laurels. To all Americans, united in a common cause for happiness through freedom, we dedicate this book. Pagu I' iz 1:
