First Divisions deck force, under the constant and experienced supervision of rated Boatswains Mates maintain the cleanliness and seaworthiness of the forward part of the Blue, a job which starts at revile, oftentimes ending after evening colors and continuing all year round as long as the ship exists. Though a ship's primary function is to float, this is a warship, and its purpose and design is to deliver effective fire on a wide variety of targets. Figuring importantly in our defensive are the three 5 f38 caliber twin mounts, and it is the First Division Gunners Mates who maintain them. It's their job to keep the guns lubricated, painted, and protected from the rough Weather and rough use at General Quarters that they take. They also are responsible for the storage and safety of the tons of high explosives and pyrotecnics kept in the handling rooms and lower magazines about the ship. With the ordnance knowledge of the gunners and the Willingness of the deckforce the Blue comes into its own a s a fighting destroyer.
