Prior to this he was Chief Staff Officer for ComDesron Three aboard the Hag- ship, USS Kyes. He enlisted in 1942 in the US Naval Reserve and saw nearly two years of the war as a Phar- micists Mate attached to the fleet marine before being commissioned in 1944.
