This year we had as our officers: Bill Laukhuf, president, Gerald Williamson, vice-president, Larry Sinn, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. l-ombright was our advisor. We started our sophomore year with twenty active members, having lost Sharon Rowe, Dale Ger- ber, Ben Craft, Rose Marie Baker, Carol Bland, and Opal Vance, we gained two new members: Larry Hayes and David Gehres. Our officers this year were Bill Laukhuf, president, Larry Sinn, vice-president, Janice Foxx, secretary-treasurer. During this year we ordered our class rings. Our advisor was Mr. Shand. We started our junior year with sixteen members, having lost Dennis Bennett, Margaret Doster, .lack Hammon, Larry Hayes, Martin Raudabough, Gene DeLong, and Gerald Williamson, we gained Norma Adkins and Carl McVey. Our officers this year were Barbara Roger, president, Bill Laukhuf, 'vice-president, Janice Foxx, secretary-treasurer, Norma Adkins, reporter. We had to work very hard this school term in order to raise money for the .Junior and Senior trip to Washington D.C, Our ad- visor was Mr. Jay. With the help of Miss Mouser, we presented our junior class play, That Brew- ster Boy . Now our long journey is almost over. As seniors we are very proud to be the first graduated class at our new school building. We have twelve members, having lost Rex Rodman, Gerald Hofacker, Carl McVey and Norma Adkins. We presented our senior play, Out of This World , with the help of Mr.Scarbrough. Our officers were: Charles Hart, president, Janice Foxx, vice-president, Mildred Perry, secretary, Bill Laukhuf, treasurer, Barbara Rager, reporter. We are also looking forward to our Senior trip to New York City with the help of our advisor, Mr. Compton. These school years have been enjoyed by all of us, and we know that the time, which we have spent at our school will help us face the problems that we will meet in future days. BY Franklin Cavinder 99 ptdpkddy '56- '76 It is the summer of l976, and here in official Washington, D.C. , as America celebrates 200 years of Independence, l am starting my vacation from my job as a court stenographer. You see l am going to attend the Blue Creek Alumni Banquet, which is honoring the graduates of i956 this year. l have not been back to Blue Creek for many years, owing to the press of business, and only today in Federal Court we wound up a multi-million dollar lawsuit where Larry Sinn was suing someone for infringement on one of his patents. lt seems that he had devised a new stratospheric convertible iet that makes non- stop flights tothe moon, and someone tried to copy from him. lncidentally, Larry lives here in Wash- ington, and his wife is the rising young social hostess of the day. ln case you hadn't heard, l.arry's mother-in-law is Marilyn Monroe. It will be such a relief to get away from the city hustle and bustle for awhile, and l have lust time to catch my plane. My tickets should be in order, as l always fly Gray-Lines. That's the line owned by a former classmate, better known as Duke , and he has non-stop flights anywhere in the world. l understand his flight headquarters are near Latty, where he has one of the largest and most modern air terminals in the world. ln no time at all we are circling the airfield, and it seems impossible that this industrial area can be the same place l left twenty years ago. As we come down the runway, there is something familiar about the distinguished looking gentleman waving the flags to guide the plane to the unloading area. It can't be--but it is, none other than Frank Cavinder, who has been partners with Duke since grad- uation, a hold-over no doubt from their days in shop at Blue Creek where they made many projects to- gether. Before going to the school, l decide to have lunch, and am attracted to the huge neon sign which reads Evelyn's Hash-House , and that name Evelyn seems to ring a bell--as l try to remember all my classmates names. l can't recall the last name, but then l bet it was that quiet, slow-talking girl that was always so shy--Oh, yes, Evelyn Funk--and sure enough, that 's her behind the counter , still slinging the hash. lt was good to see her, but I was sorry that her busy work kept her from going to the banquet with me. As I was leaving, Evelyn called to me, and after a long introduction to the headline performer of the Hash-House stage show, l recognized the lady thrush who had warbled her way to stardom with two recordings that sold over a million copies each--Patty Neiford. She was also the one responsible for the current craze of teen-agers--roll and rock boogies, and on seeing her again, l recognized her as having recently appeared on television, where she and Frank Sinatra both made comebacks to show business. Ps I reach the schoolhouse, l find that it has kept pace with the times, and the former building that l attended is now used as a heating plant for the main building. Inside the doorway, it it not hard to recognize the distinguished looking gentleman who has been superintendent of the school for some time. lt is my old friend and classmate, David Gehres, David tells me that he enjoys his work a lot, and that he is the proud father of seven children, all attending Blue Creek Local. He says that he regrets not being able to ioin his class at the banquet table but his band is furnishing the music. He leads a swing band in which he plays trumpet. 100 As we are about to be seated, a fan-fare of trumpets calls to our attention to let us know that royalty is among us. The stage curtains part and a handsome, well-dressed, and wealthy-looking couple comes forward. The announcer introduces Prince Ranier IV and his new bride. Now we can see that the princess is the former Mary Lou Gunderman. The two met in Monaco when Mary Lou was traveling in foreign countries to buy the latest fashions for her ready-to-wear store in Haviland. In the Qathering tonight, royalty seems to be overshadowed by a perrennial movie star, lust arrived from Hollywood where he made his hundredth picture. It is the romantic hero, Bill Brute--to us known to be Bill Laukhuf, our classmate of l956. He has been the subject of teen-age adoration for over fifteen years now. lncidentally, there is his former leading lady, who after one picture found acting opposite Bill too strenuous, and became a leading fashion designer-- Perry of Hollywood . She is sitting next to Bill tonight, and could it be after all these years--well, Mildred, best of luck. As we scan our program, we find that this alumni program is also celebrating Blue Creek's third straight state championship basketball team, and it is fitting that the speakers of the evening are from the world of sports. We notice first on the program the leading woman athlete of the century, having won the U.S. Women's Golf Championship, as well as the Tennis Title for IO consecutive years. We learn it is Barbara Rager Hogan when she introduces her husband, Ben Hogan, Jr. Last, but not least, on the program is another graduate of 1956. lt's Charlie Hart, who has been star of the Zollner Pistons for all these years, after making a name in collegiate basketball with his fantastic hook shots. Last year he was the highest paid and most sought after player of the NBA. His plans after retirement from pro ball are to return to Blue Creek as a coach, as his large family lives in Scott with his in-laws while Charlie is on the road traveling. We enioyecl getting together again after twenty years, and it has made my vacation very enjoyable. We hope to get together again before another twenty years pass.
