Senior Class History The history of the Class of '56 is so dramatic and so colorful that it resembles a play----one of those modern plays that disregards all the rules of the drama. As the curtain rises for the first of four acts we see a group of young actors, starry-eyed and scared, walking down the corridors of Blowing Rock High School, ready to begin their march to become Seniors. The first part of the act is spent in learning the ways of high school. Then the villian, who is to follow the young actors through the entire four acts of this drama, comes on the scene. The villian is known as Study. It took hard work to overpower this creature, but after the final examination, it was found that the actors were more powerful . After an intermission of eight weeks the curtain rises for Act Il. We see the same people in the same position as the pre- ceding act, except that they now have a new title, Sophomores. In this Act the villian, Study, is still lurking about, but he now has to take a back seat. Also in this Act some of them begin to succeed in the field of athletics. The curtain falls for another intermission and we begin Act III. Here the actors acquire still another name, Juniors. By this time @ few of the actors have dropped by the wayside thinking that they have found a better life. The high-light of this Act is the Junior-Senior Banquet. With the help of their sponsors, Mrs. Irene Davis and Mr. Carter Lentz, they were able to give the Seniors a very enjoyable banquet. At this time the curtain falls on Act III and the last intermission begins. As the curtain goes up, Act IV begins. We see twenty-one of the original number which began the play. By this time the actors have grown in body and mind, but the villian is still around in the form of Senior English, but they feel sure that they can conquer him. Four years have elapsed since the time this play began, and we, the members of the Senior Class of '56, feel sure that the knowledge that we have gained in these past four years will carry us through our entire lives. Class of 1956 Senior Class Prophecy As | was looking around for some snappy literature that | hadn't read, | ran across a little black notebook that looked interesting. It had several closely typed notes. Just as | was about to close it, | noticed the names of my classmates. It was one of Professor Lentz's private notebooks, and the notes contained therein were of the Senior Class of '56. Some of these notes I'll slip on to you. Joe White is worrying why no one will have anything to do with him. He doesn't realize that his motto, All for one and that one me, is beginning to go to his head. There's also Jeanette Payne, or should | say Edmisten? She is still hatch- ing little Edmistens. Cheaper by the dozen, Jeanette. Dayton Gragg is having trouble paying off all those milkshakes he has been betting on the Yankees. He should go see Baxter Edmisten. It seems he was married earlier in the year to Mary Moneybags. Now, Baxter, you won't have to study any more Shakespeare. George Hollars is having trouble with all his girl friends. The title ‘Most Handsome! wasn't given to me for nothing, he says. Tommy Cooke is still trying to find a book to sit on. | believe he is driving a bus for Greyhound now. You'd better look out for John Moody. Ever since he built his race-track in Blowing Rock, he really races through town with cops trailing him. Doctor Benny Robinson is just now beginning to get some patients. He cured a woman of heart-burns. Really made him famous. As | was reading farther down, | noticed Doss Keller had put up a Swollow-Hollow Grill. Doss, | sure hope you're not starving, now. Lucy Bradshaw is now known as the Nation's Rage Upon the Stage. She received this title when she dramatized the romantic part in the drama The Meddlesome Maid. Bill Collins’ experiments have been so successful and his methods so drastic that every germ still in ex- istence wears a life preserver, day and night, living in constant fear of being captured by him. Ruby Hodges has decided to beat Rocky Marciano with her powerful right. She has been in training for several years. Look out, Rocky! Frank Auton is known the world over for his sketches of Marilyn Monroe. What some males would give to be in his shoes! There is a note on an astronomer who is studying the heavens while he is at the seashore with his beautiful girl assistant. Seems | remember that star-gazer from way back. His name is Bud Greene. David Greene is now the President of State University. He is trying to teach his son some geometry, and is fussing at him for being so dumb. David, like father, like son. Joyce Hollars has de- cided to leave off all careers and settle down with her husband and cats. Johnny Knight is experimenting on his old cars to see which he can get to run the slowest. We see Christene Ford has opened up a dress shop in Blackberry. Maybe some girl will get the idea of clothing instead of marriage. Good luck, old girl. Billy Miller is now a retired bachelor. No, he hasn't starved on his ready-made biscuits. We find that Bobby Coffey is having trouble keeping his class ring. Better give in and give her a diamond, Bob. The last note is on Valerie Dotson. She and all the little Dotsons are sitting on one of the docks waiting for the Captain to come home.

To Mr. Storie, our thanks and deepest gratitude for the many times he has guided and consoled us.
