SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Ten years have passed since our class of 1955 graduated from Blowing Rock High School, and last week at our class reunion at Blowing Rock all of us had a lot of catching up to do. The first thing most of us talked about is the change in our Alma Mater. All the old school buildings have been torn down and replaced by completely new and modern ones, and Roger Hartley is now the proud principal. | found that Evelyn Craig is still jerking sodas at Harris’ Drug Store, and trying to catch all the good-looking boys, but Caroline Greene has left Harris' and is now spending most of her time sitting on the steps of radio station WATA in Boone singing Our First Affair. Earl Holder and Edwin Daye tell me that they are now great rivals in the field of baseball, Earl playing for the Boston Red Sox and Ed for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the World Series this year. Coleen Triplett is now the wife of a professor at Draughn's Business College but being married doesn't keep her from making eyes at the referees at the college basketball games. Ted Dotson is living in Aho now and he's been having trouble with his in-laws. It seems that they all have different views about how Ted, Jr. should be brought up. Carolyn Hartley is still going with her boy friend, Shorty, but she just won't say yes. Barbara White tells me she is still baby-sitting, but with her own six children (two sets of tripletts) now instead of with someone else's. After seeing Doyle Ford last week, | think he is still living up to his reputation of best dressed man in Black berry and is now driving a cadillac around in them thar hills. Betty Foster is still getting threatening letters from a certain girl about Eddie in Lenior. Better watch out, Betty, she might do something drastic! Shirley Hollars says she has been trying her best to stow away ona ship to Japan because that's the only way she will ever get to see Ralph again. But somehow she always gets caught. Wade Hollars is really living it up these days. A rich uncle he never knew he had died and left hima sizable legacy and Wade is having the time of his life. Two members of our class, Bill Moody and Mayne Coffey, couldn't attend our class reunion, but they had written letters to several members of the class explaining their absence. Mayne is now navigator of one of the largest ships in the American Steamship Line and was on his way to South America at the time. Bill now owns a large cattle ranch in Texas and since he is chief veteri- narian for the ranches located in his area, he couldn't spare the time to come all the way to Blowing Rock. Inciden- tally, oil was discovered on his land recently and he is quite excited about that. Well, | must be going home to Kentucky now. Joe, Jr. will be giving his daddy a pretty hard time! SENIOR CLASS HISTORY This is a story of a marvelous class--the most wonderful class that ever happened at old Blowing Rock, namely the class of 1955. Its life continued but four short years, yet every day of those four years was crowded with events. When we, the members of this remarkable class, have all achieved the fame and honors that are bound to come to us, the memories of these four years will linger in the hearts of each and every one. But | must get back to the beginning of my story. It was in September, 1951, A.D., that this brilliant group of boys and girls first made their triumphal appearance in the halls and on the campus of Blowing Rock High, and from that day until the day of graduation there was more intellectuality in the atmosphere of that institution than was ever known before or probably will ever be known again. ; We had varied characteristics and peculiarities, so it will not be difficult for you to guess that there were heroes and heroines in the basketball and baseball games during the freshman year and the years that followed. With the coming of the next September, we received a new name. Because of our skill in acquiring the customs of the school, we were renamed Sophomores, and the process was called by a native name, promotion . Since several of the members decided to follow other courses rather than continuing their education, our enrollment decreased. n the thi i : ; ! e third year, owing to an old educational custom, we became Juniors, and our promotion made our sense of importance increase our of all due proportion. This was a year of hard work as well as fun. The whole class along with the help and patience of Mrs. Irene Davis, our s i : , ponsor, worked hard to f Pat pt which wes indeedithe nighelighties thelyean! ’ raise money for the Junior-Senior banquet At last came the senior year with all its dignity and importance and its great feeling of superiority overall the other classes. One of our most impressive events of the year was the senior play, Your Face Is Familiar which was a hilarous 3-act comedy. Then came the thoughts and preparations for graduation--the selection of the motto, the class flower, the class colors, the speeches, the caps and gowns, and all that enters into commencement. k Soon we will all be separated and each will go hi i i ; ) go his own way. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the members of the Senior Class of Blowing Rock High School, County of Watauga, State of North Carolina, in the year of our Lord 1955, being of sound mind, body, and what have you, and having no hard feelings toward the faculty, do hereby make and declare this to be our Last Will and Testament: To Mr. Storie, we bestow the responsibility of supervising Blowing Rock High School without our inspiring and able assistance.
