GP cophecy EX As I look into the future I see myself in the year 1955, touring the country and seeing what has become of my former classmates—those who graduated in 1950. My journey first takes me through Bamboo where I see Patsy Bolick teaching school and wishing she had a college education so she could tell her children better “Stories” . . . As I continued I passed a little white house not far from the road. I saw Tony Lentz sitting on the front porch singing to her children ‘““Make My Coffey Black”. . .. Further along on the Parkway I saw Caroline Greene posting signs—‘‘Watch for children playing”. . .. The next stop of my journey was Lees-McRae College where I heard that Ernest Banner was cram- ming for those final exams like mad... (Meanwhile wishing he was back at Maple Lodge eating some of Mama Greene’s good cooking . . . From here I really traveled. Clear to Raleigh where Billy Greene was down on his knees in front of the Governor begging to have the road to Cool Springs paved... . On I go and find myself facing a city limits sign that says “Odell.” There in the school house was Vivian Ervin arguing with the county superintendent about her Chemistry class. Seemed she was having too much competition in discovering new chemical reactions ... And as I progressed, I saw Bobby Walters coaching a professional basketball team and still trying to persuade that girl that lives on Abernathy Hill . . . I started my journey home at this point and stopped to talk to Lucille Trexler at Blackberry. She was wondering if there could still be ‘“‘a Ford in her future” ... On up the road I came in view of the Green Park Hotel. Who should I see standing in front but Sonny Hollars thumbing a ride. I had to let him walk, however, as he was headed toward Bailey’s Camp ... Also in the Green Park section was Merritt Coffey telling his fiance that Mr. Coffey would give them a house if Mr. Young would buy the groceries . . . Back in the city of Blowing Rock, I stopped to shop at Hayes Dept. Store and there was Nancy Lentz modeling their new frocks from Braodway Fashions . . . As she was very busy I didn’t bother her long but she had time to relate to me what she saw in Boone the other day . . . Bobby Shores was standing in front of the Miller residence. A young lady was twisting his arm trying to make him propose ... I also found that Norma Banner was still living at home and still washing Aunt Mabel’s dishes and wishing somebody in the house would help her .. . Now my trip is completed and I have seen all of my former classmates with the exception of Virginia Moody . . . Lo and behold as I turn out the Linville Road homeward bound I see her sitting on the rock wall in front of Foster’s beside a stop sign 1.0) Llere Iam at home again | - P.S. During all my trekking around, I hadn’t been able to find out what happened to Jane Benfield .. . but when I reached home there was a letter from her waiting which explained her absence. She had been living in Boone and working in the Dime Store for the last five years.
