My favorite part of homecoming is the way if seems to bring the whole community closer together. The game and the dance are great, but the parade is my favorite part. It brings the old and the young fogeth- GREAT PRETENDERS Oh yes, we're great pretenders and homecoming week is just the time to indulge our fantasies. This year's theme, That was then, this is now” sent us down memory lane to the time when Jack's Drive-In was the favorite spot for teens to hang out and even farther back to the time when a ferry vas the only transportation across the Appalachicola River. (That made courting between Bristol. Blountstown guys and gals a challenge.) Our floats and dress up days coincided with the Welcome Home Day sponsored by the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce. BHS alumni and students celebrated the restoration of the old court house along with homecoming activities. Two queens were crowned: Melanie Roberson was crowned BHS Homecoming Queen and Mrs. Myrtle Blair was crowned Golden Girl's Queen. The town was filled with visitors and dignitaries who joined in the celebration and parade. It was a weekend of excitement and entertainment that brought the school and community closer together. There can't be any harm in a little make-believe now and then, especially if it's all for a good cause. Welcome Home Day and Homecoming seem to be worthy of a little extra attempt to recapture the golden years gone by, while reveling in the glories of the here and now. S
