Students Come to Life After Sehool The bell rings. Sehool is out. Those sleeping since eight suddenly come alive, pour out of class, run to the lockers, and race to their cars or buses. As the cars leave their parking spaces, bounce over cement mountains. (sometimes called speed breakers), and squeal out the back gate, tbe football players trudge out to the fieldhouse, with their red jerseys slung over one shoulder. They spend most of the afteroon “working up a sweat for Friday’s game. Meanwhile, others report for work, where they too blow their afternoon, trying to earn money to support themselves. (This really means money for lunch downtown, and other “necessities ). Those who manage to be free, whether by sheer will power or the grace of Cod, can be seen cruising the streets, or with eyes glued to the fifth running of “Gilligan’s Island. By Rusty Wyrick 16
