fa . Us Q 'z4vW Qg3 '5ff':'4WQ'ff' A conference with parents is another im- portant phase of school life, Regular P. T. A. meetings and the annual Open House held each fall bring many pupils, parents and teachers closer. The daily routine is sometimes given added spice by the visit of a celebrity--many students met Senator Kefauver face to face, many received campaign buttons, and many are expecting autographs forwarded from his Washington office. ,,,g---S11 .22 Traditional events like Homecoming and the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom require a lot of planning and hard work--but the finished product is always worth the time consumed, the energy exerted, and the money spent! School life would not be what it is--ups and downs, joys and sorrows, winning and losing, learning and forgetting, giving and taking--without the nostalgic final acts like erasing marks from textbooks before check- ing them in and cleaning out lockers for the last time during '55-'56 . . .

School life is also composed of many out-of-classroom activi- ties. For example, a vital part of the overall school program is the pupil-improvement of the campus and buildings, Each year both the grounds and build- ings become more and more attractive and colorful. Public performances are en- couraged, Local students are encouraged both to become good performers and good listeners. The F. F.A. boys' quartet participated in district competition, the Glee Club sponsored matinee and evening concerts presented by F. S. U. 's Women's Glee Club--these are but two examples among many, Learning to participate intelli- gently in democratic living is facilitated by voting, cam- ' paigning, and rallies as well as by classroom projects. Students register to vote, and back up the winners--be it a Student Council election, a homeroom election, or a mock presidential cam- paign.
