The Blountstown Faculty and Student Body have been most cooperative this year andl think everyone has worked long and hard to have a better school. I consider this a very successful year for Blountstown and only through the combined efforts of students and teachers has this been possible. I would like to say that patrons of the Blountstown School should be very proud of their school children, because I firmly believe that we have as good a student body as can be found in any school. We must not rest on our laurels though--next year we will strive for even a better school. Sincerely, E. MOODY ELDRIDGE Supervising Principal O I 0 0 0 The sun has set on the 1953-54 term of school, and we feel our efforts have not been in vain. Our principal concern has been the welfare of the child, and we as teachers have worked toward that end. We have put forth 'a special effort to bring the home and school closer together. We are indeed grate- ful that this has been realized by cooperation of the parents with us through the P. T. A. Our parents and teachers have been very loyal, sincere, and cooperative in planning and executing our plans for the wel- fare of the children and the community. We are looking forward to the new year with hopes of even a better school. Sincerely, CHAPPELL MILLERGREN Assistant Principal It .M 119' 'L ' IS ,I T' G jj 54? The council has accomplished very much this year toward school spirit and service. The first thing we did toward promoting school spirit was to co -sponsor Homecoming. At Christmas, we awarded a prize for the best decorated room, the honors going to the Junior Class. Our main service project was buying a projector which was greatly needed for the school. We conducted our election of officers for the year of 1954-55, and the council was in charge of elections for all the other organizations. Our annual money-making project is operating the supply store. The council feels that it has had a very successful year and has had wonderful advisors and officers. GASKIN dictum! game accede As in years past, this has been another successful year for the Blountstown Chapter of the National Honor Society. This year we initiated into the society thirteen students from the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. There are a number of service projects of which we are especially proud. We were co- sponsors of the Homecoming celebration. At Christmas, we collected toys from N. H. S. mem- bers and members of the Junior and Senior classes to distribute to needy families. We were able to provide four large families with toys for each child. In March, eleven of our members in- stalled a National Honor Society chapter in Crawfordville. Other projects which we carry out annually are listed below. 1. Red Cross and March of Dime Drives in the High School. During these drives, mem- bers gave speeches and collected donations from each class. 2. Each week we provided a bulletin board display in the hall. 3. Members relieved teachers of selling tickets at basketball and football games. 4. We sponsored Student-Teacher Day, which provided students an opportunity to try the teaching profession. 5. We gave a tea for parent and teachers after the initiation. According to the boys, Mr. Eldridge has done the wishing and wantingg Mrs. Bailey, the begging and bossingg and they, the digging and watering! The campus has been a more attractive place this year than ever beforeg it should be even prettier in years to come. 5 .f rags bf -A '1 RSQ if Qs: 5: -I :ss 33 lir.. V-,,,. H. A. Chapter started off with a big bang at the end of last year's school term, Mr. and Mrs. James Parker let us have a cottage at the beach for a few days. At this time we planned our next year's work. We all had a wonderful time - working and playing. In November, twenty-five of our fifty-five members went to the district meeting in De Funiak Springs. In April our Chapter sent seven members to Daytona Beach to State F. H. A. Convention. Three of the seven were candidates for state officers. Joan Parker was elected Vice President, In Charge of Program of Work. The following are the 1953-54 F. H. A. ' During the past year the F. F. A. Chapter has accomplished many things. Here are a few of them: 1. We have a broiler house which is a great help to us. We raise twenty-five hundred broilers every twelve weeks. 2. The hen house that we have recently installed is paying well. We have two -hundred, twenty-five hens in it. 3. Two of the boys did a good deed for the Chapter and themselves. They carried two steers to the Fat Cattle Show in Quincey and won first and third places. 4. In October, all the F. F.A, boys went to the North Florida Fair in Tallahassee. In Febru ary, six of the boys went to the Florida State Fair in Tampa. 5. We have a pig chain started, in which we expect to give away eight pigs this year. 6. The joint F. F.A. and F. H.A. banquet turned out to be a great success. H. S. band is giving half-time shows at football games Such performances were rendered at all home games and at some out of town games. After football season Mr. Ed Santana assumed the directorship of the band and made plans to compete in the district festival. Several difficulties arose so the plans to compete at festival were canceled. Two other functions of the band were playing at the May Day Festival and in assembly on award day. During the year from 30 to 40 members have participated in band activities. The Dramatics Club, with an enrollment of 43 at the beginning of the school year, appears to be one of the fastest growing organizations of the school due to the fact that it was newly organized last year. Mrs. Schwendeman sponsors our club. Throughout the year, we have studied one-act plays, monologues and pantomimes. Un- fortunately we were unable to present these falong with our annual minstrelj because we lacked the proper auditorium facilities. i During the month of February, a few of the members of the organization participated in the Founders Day Program' for the P. T. A. We not only enjoyed putting on the program but found that it helped us a great deal in appearing before the public, We are hoping that next year the proper facilities are available and that the organization will keep up its steady growth. -'LAX' ,Q ,af af 14 The Future Teachers' Club is the newest organization in school this year.
