We hope that when in future days you return to these pages your memories of our days of work and play this year will become as vivid as they are familiar today. We wish to express our appreciation to those of the student body and faculty for the assistance they have given us in collecting the materials for this yearbook. Since the publication of this annual has required a great deal of effort on our part and much co-operation on yours, we hope that the finished project will be as enjoyable to you as its editing has been to us. HAMILTON A.B., M.A., Advanced Post Graduate University of Florida ALMA MATER lAdaptedD Our strong band can ne'er be broken It can ne'er die, Far surpassing wealth unspoken, Sealed by Friendships tie. CHORUS Lift the chorus ever onward, lift it to the sky! Hail to thee, our Alma Mater, Hail to Blountstown High. Mem'ry's leaflets close shall twine, Around our hearts for aye, And waft us back o'er life's broad track, To pleasures long gone by. High School Life is swiftly passing, Soon its days are done 'But while we live we'll ever cherish Friendships here begun. To our student body: V Man from the beginning of time has been struggling to master his enviroment. Upon his ability to control his environmental health and safety hazards depends life itself. The complexity of modern living has made it necessary for the citizen and his govern- ment to share the responsibility of providing a safe and healthful place in which to live. Boys and girls who are in school today will be voting and tax paying citizens of tomorrow. They will be paying taxes to aid in the support of governmental health and safety activities, Youth also faces many problems of personal and social adiustment. Those growing out of boy and girl and family relationships are among the most vital and sometimes the most difficult. No one is expected to be able to enter a profession or skilled employment without having been prepared for the experience, but little, if any, preparation is given the young people for the two vocations which will occupy most of them, that is, family life and community life. Of all the needs of youth those which relate to survival values must be considered fundamental. Though we have long considered the home the very foundation of American Democracy, the school and church have only recently concerned themselves with such vital problems. As teachers we seek to develop attitudes and understandings which will motivate stu- dents to adopt ways of living which will lead to health, enduring satisfaction, and skillful living. An informed, intelligent citizen is one of the strongest bulwarks of democracy. It is to this all important cause that this article is contributed. Sincerely, Earl Hamilton In the one short year that Mr. Hamilton has been our principal, he has endeared himself to eve senior and underclassmen by his careful guidance, enduring patience, and rare good fellowshl The Class of '51 believes that Blountstown High School will make great progress with such leader as Mr. Hamilton at its helm. We hereby bequeath to Mr. Hamilton, our principal, our appreciation and respect for his careful guid- ance, enduring patience and rare good fellowship. To the faculty we leave fond memories of our bril- liant class and condolences over the loss they will experience at our graduation. To our successors, the Juniors, we begrudgingly leave Mrs. Bailey and our privileges and dignity as Seniors. We solemnly bequeath to the naive, unsuspecting sophomores and freshmen a deeper sense of duty and a more serious view on life, which we trust will help them when they become lordly Seniors, come 1953 and 1954. To Mr. Peters we leave our gratitude for cleaning up our messes all these many years. Now we have twenty-tive members. lt is one of the most active organizations in our school Each year since its organization the Chapter has sent delegates to the state convention. Mrs. Geraldine Adams, the sponsor for the last two years, took over the sponsorship held by Miss Olivia Hines for the first two years of the society's activities. The Clean-up Campaign, Student-Teachers Day, and Courtesy Week are some ot the numerous activities sponsored by the society. We are very proud of this society and we sincerely hope that it will continue to grow in all the areas of our aims - Character, Scholar- ship, Leadership, and Service. Our Chapter was invited to install the officers of the newly organized Port St. Joe Chapter in T949-50. Membership in this society is truly something to be proud of and tc strive for. ,- u..---f--...wc NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY OFFICERS President John Wood Ayers Secretary , Minnie Joy Taylor Vice-President Jean Dunn Treasurer , Margaret Aultman Sponsor , . ., . The purpose of the Student Council organization of Blountstown High School is to bring about closer cooperation between the student body, the faculty, and the administration, and to give the students a share in the responsibilities of their school. The council assumes the responsibility for running the school supply store, the writing of excuses for people who are absent or tardy, and for keeping order in the halls and on the stairs. In October the coun:il sponsored the Homecoming parade and Queen with her attendants at the Blountstown-Bristol game. The queen, Virginia Coxwell, was presented with a bouquet of flowers and was crowned by the captain of the football team, She, with her escort and attendants, was given recognition during the half-time show. The Youth Center was opened a part of the year under the sponsorship of the Student Council. Ping pong equipment, playing cards, and games were furnished by the Council, different grades assumed the responsibilities for each night. The Lost and Found department was newly created this year. Articles which were found were given to the Council members and any person could reclaim his property by paying a small fee. The dancing instructions for students was one of the most popular projects of the year. Students assumed the roles of teachers and gave instructions during the noon hour. Attempts were made to decreasethe number of absentees by sponsoring a campaign. A poster was kept in the hall, with room count posted each week. At the end of the month, the homeroom with the lowest percentage of persons absent and tardy, was entitled to a half holiday. Student Day was sponsored by the Student Council and Honor Society. On this day, members of these two groups accepted the positions of the teachers. Six of our members were chosen as teachers for the day . Other than the supply store, the Council's only money-making project was one dance. During the first month of school, the Council had a weiner roast, at which time new members were initiated. Our local Council was represented at the Northwest Florida Convention in Defuniak Springs by Gene Yon and Jimmy Young. lillian Cook and Jimmy Kearce were sent to Datona Beach to the State Convention as delegates. The council also ioined the National Association of Student Councils for the school year T950-51. Sl F.FiA. Notes l The Blountstown FF A.
