Clan Prophecy SCENE A schoolroom 1n a schoolhouse somewhere mn Ohzo TIME Just before the txme for school to begm YEAR 1990 Ah me tlme for school to begxn agaxn Schoolteachmg can certaznly be unmterestmg at t1mes especlally for a spmster of flfty slx Hm m don t tell me I have another new student' Thxs class IS growmg beyond my control At flfty sxx you re not the glrl you were at sxxteen Goodness has 1t been forty years already s1nce graduat1on'P It seems lmke e1ghty' My there IS somethmg very famzlxar about that g1rl the same freckles the same eyes and yes even the same glggle She IS the lmage of my old classmate Mary May Fortney I asked the necessary 1nformat1on and found that her name was even the same Mary May Herlast name was Snyder Why Mary May used to go wxth a fellow named Snyder I wonder That mght I went home wlth the lzttle g1rl and sure enough her mother was my old classmate I found out that her husband owned the hotel they were l1v1ng mn What a lxfe' I mentloned that It was too bad that Blanch Klaxss and Betty Z1egler weren't here She sald she could f1x that and she ushered me across the hall what a surprlsel We talked for hours Betty told me she was head bookkeeper at the bmg Sears and Roebuck concern Cu1te mmportant Blanch told me about the bmg case she was workmg on now She had become a famous attorney at law Then suddenly the 1dea struck us Why not have a reumon of all our old set the date for a month from now whlch also happened to be the Fortxeth An nlversary of our graduatlon The next month was spent 1n hard work but fmally we had all our classmates and teachers rounded up and fmally xt was txme for the banquet Our boys have really gone places In this old world George IS chxef engx neer of a construct1on company At present they are buxldmg a dam across Honey Creek It's to be the largest ever made large enough to buxld an a1r port on Merv1n has become a famous Western smger He has just revxved Frank1e La1ne's old song Mule Traxn under the tltle of I Get a K1ck Out of You Phylhs Perklns IS head d1et1t1on at the Waldorf Hotel ln New York Her name had long been changed to Raxtz .Iosephme Legron has become the traveler of our group She goes about g1v1ng lectures on the scxence of anatomy Rlght now her home IS 1h Parts Parls Kentucky that IS Joyce Dolch 15 a schoolteacher also Only she IS not a spmlster She marrxed her chxldhood sweetheart and she 15 now head of the musxc department of Bloomvxlle Hxgh School Lols Kagy has become a famous pamter Her last pamtmg won a blue rxbbon at the Natxonal Art Exhxbxt It s entxtled A Ramy Day Her husband B111 Rxechert thanks her pamtlngs are wonderful 12. . - . , . . . Claaa .Hidfory Between the sobs of some chlldren the thrllls and curosrty of others twenty six small angels left the1r fam1lxes for the fxrst txme to begm thexr long lxfe of educatxon Those twenty s1x young students were Joe Hoyda Jealea Holt Blanch Klalss Pearl Smxth Joyce Dolch Dorothy Mexsner Harlen Ruch Gerald Schnexder John Shock Mary Blaser Mary May Fortney Norma Burdette Nancy Eschmeyer Phyll1s Kagy Grace Jackson Eugene Brewer Barbara Folst Margaret Scheerer Betty Zlegler Marxlyn Hufford Paul Lawerence I..o1s Kagy Anna Fxlhator Delorls Gurney Gladme Hatfxeld Mlss Hossler now Mrs Lelster led us through that year Many thlngs happened we all played ln the toy band durmg the wlnter we sl1d down the 1cy f1re escape steps and were almost always late to class The second year we got to s1t at desks m place of tables and our teacher M1ss Mable Kagy taught us to tell t1me boy,were we b1g stuff' Thmgs went smoothly our thmrd year we had a serxes of spell downs Joyce Dolch vnon the majorxty of them and was awarded a pxggy bank Our teacher changed her name from Mxss Anna Sheffer to Mrs Deppen A scarlet fever ep1dem1c kept a lot of us out of school thts wmter Grace Jackson broke out wxth the measles whxle the health nurse was v1s1t1ng our school so we pro tectmg students h1d her mn the closet for the rest of the afternoon Our teacher Mxss Sulln an never mxssed her Our fxfth year we saw our troubles multxply Phyllis Perkms and Marjorie Ekleberry moved ID one week The next week started a battle that lasted the rest of the year and st1ll 1sn't settled Mlss Rule tr1ed to referee but soon gave up It all started over a pen I don t know how much progress our brams made but by the txme we were ln the Sxxth Grade our egoes had reached thexr peak The last day of school we were 1nv1ted to Marjorme Ekleberry s house for a p1cn1c Most of us hlked out wxth the teacher our budding young romance d1dn't last longer We fxnally reached Jumor I-hgh Everythmg was so d1fferent study hall a new eacher every per1od and no more recesses After two years we f1nally became Freshmen and belxeve me we were as green a group of Freshmen as was ever 1n1t1ated We worked hard all year planmng our Freshman Sophomore Banquet The results made our efforts worthwhxle Durmg our Sophomore Year Mr Porter took us on many Blology trlps It was on one of these that Shxrley snapped a pxcture of hxm playmg wxth an ugly snake Our eleventh year we were as busy as Jumors could be plannmg another banquet sellxng magazxnes and producmg our class play Watch Out For Spooks Of course we can t forget our class rxngs Our Semor Year has been our most memorable year of all especxally the last semester Our Senlor play was titled Say It Wxth Musxc As all Semors do we planned all year for our Commencement actxvxtles We argued about our mvztatlons vuhuh class trxp to take whxch color our robes were to be and what dates our act1v time were to fall on All m all we have had a lot of fun VN e wish there were a lot more 1 con e to us as a class although we have promised to have reumons frequently at df ther s hurT19S Loxs Kagy ll Mrs. Iva Rhoad, but lucky Phyllis Jean got to ride on Roy Wertz' bike. Bermta Hart who has changed her name to FO1St now runs a beauty salon 1n M1am1 Florida Her motto IS Lipstick and paint can make you look what vou a1n't' ' Margaret Scheerer holds the position of head librarian at the Bloom Town ship Public Library The library has grown quite large and has several branches Last January she was elected President of the United Librarians ASSOC1at10h After graduation Mary Blaser took up the a t of ballet She 15 quite famous baller1na now and she has been booked for weeks at the Golden Gate Theater in California Her favorite dance is the Swan Dance Phyllis Jean Kagy came to our banquet a l1ttle late She IS coach of the Harvard Football Team and her train was late in arriving at the station She was quite elated her team had just won sixty e1ght to nothing over Yale Barbara Foist lS a sailor s w1fe His name 15 Gerald K1rk She just loves to roam the seas with h1m I remember from our boat trip that she was the only one who d1dn't get seasick I m sure the l1fe of the sea agrees with her Last but not least is Marjorie Ekleberry Her name is now Blaser and she is top star with the Metropol1tan Opera Company Last week she stared 1n the opera Carmen and simply wowed her audience Fortunately we were able to locate our teachers too All of them were able to come except Mr Zellner He IS Secretary of Agriculture and was in a very 1mportant conference at the time of our banquet He sent his very best wishes to us Mrs McK1ll1p IS still teachmg Home Econom1cs and Physical Educat1on ting the blame now 9 ' ' Mr Chaney our Senior Advisor has given up teaching and has turned to writing He writes wonderful mystery stories I-hs pen name is A Creep and h1s latest work IS The Case of the Creak1ng Bones Are You Troubled With Rheumat1sm'7 Mr Siegfried st1ll teaches at Bloomv1lle also He has become w1dely known in the f1eld of Mathematics for he has successfully trisected an angle Just recently he received the famous Nobel Prize Award Mr Mast our American Government teacher is teaching no longer At present he 15 Ohio s Senator and he will be Oh1o's candidate for the Presidency IH the coming election Mrs Swearingen who was always so helpful and understanding in our high school days now writes a lovelorn column for the Advert1ser Tribune She has mended many broken hearts Mrs Nester is st1ll teaching but not at Bloomville She has taken the place of Ferris E Ohl at He1delberg College She has led many famous singers to the road of success Marjorie lmight say was one of her pr1ze pupils Coming up beh1nd IS Mr Porter He flew all the way from Nuremburg Germany to be with us tonight He is working on one of the greatest experiments of all times He IS try1ng to solve the age old problem Which came f1rst the chicken or the egg As the evening came to a close we finally found the answer to our motto Tonxght we launch where shall we anchor?
