1 Z7 I found the concentration on teach- ing education skills so rewarding that the Nor- mal School was upgraded to the State Teach- ers ' College at Bloomsburg. The next 25 years saw additional degree programs in several areas; business education, special education, civil aeronautics, science, engineering, drafting, naval flight instruction, driver education, public school nursing, and dental hygiene. While Bloomsburg was ex- panding educational horizons, Charles Lind- bergh was exploring new horizons of aviation. He completed the first non-stop flight from New York to Paris, making aviation history. Charles Lindbergh had soared to new heights and Bloomsburg was attaining heightened goals.

1 y 1 Dwas a year of great strides. The Lit- erary institute was purctiased by the Common- weaith of Pennsyivania for $10,000 and was renamed the Bloomsburg State Normal School. On campus student accomodations were expanded: loci ers for visiting athletic teams were hung in the gymnasium; wash and iron rooms were installed in the girls ' dorms; and bathroom facilities were added. However, to cover the expense of these additional luxu- ries, student boarding fees were increased by 50 cents a week. Also during this year, the graduating class decided to create a book which would be ... a collection of passing remarks said by the way ... loosely translat- ed into Latin, Dictum Obiter. Thus, the Obiter was born. Elsewhere, Germany ' s Kaiser Wilhelm was advancing on bordering nations, shortening the number of peaceful days remaining for the CI.S. As America strengthened her forces in anticipation of fighting in WWI, the Normal School also strengthened her facilities. II
