Off-Campus Living Provides Unique Life-Style Cooking your own meals to paying high PP L bills are things experienced by students living off campus. Moving off campus provides the oppor- tunity to live a preferable style of life. There are no time restrictions for returning home, or rules for signing in a visitor. One advantage of off-campus living is preparing what you want to eat. You can prepare many types of culinary delights from hot dogs to pea- nut butter and jelly sandwiches. Granted, it ' s not home cooking, but it beats the Commons by far. Another advantage of off-campus living, direct- ed toward those who love to entertain, is the ability to have social gatherings. You decide how long, and how many people you want to enter- tain. Expenses arising from such social gather- ings are important factors to be taken into con- sideration. If you ' re cold-blooded during the winter then off- campus living is for you! This is one area where students become conservative. Lowering the thermostat is a common practice, especially when monthly bills roll around. Living off-campus gives everyone an insight to the responsibilities undertaken while maintain- ing a home of your own. Most of all it prepares students for a life style of their own in the real world. 19

A Home Away From Home What does the smell of freshly popped popcorn, doing laundry for the first time, watching soaps in the T.V. lounge, and keeping late hours in the study lounge bring to mind? Dorm life, a student ' s home away from home. Life in a dorm can be very fulfilling, but it ' s only what you, the student, put into it. Special events are organized to better familiarize everyone with each other. There are decorating and various events for homecom- ing, date parties, rollerskating parties, and mixers with other dorms. Though dorm life sounds like a bowl of cherries, there are some simple regulations that go along with it. Signing guests in and out is highly suggested, especially in single sex dorms. Fire drills are nice to have every now and then at 1:00 a.m. in the morning. If you plan on staying out late, don ' t forget your l.D. It might be helpful if you plan on getting back in your dorm. Even though a resident dorm family has its disputes; it is indeed our home away from home.

Hamburgers Again? Long lines, dirty silverware, and crowded ta- bles were common when students entered the college dining hall. BSC was faced with a new food service this year and along with it came new ideas: dipping your own ice cream, more variety in the salad bar, and a larger selection of beverages. Although H.W. Wood Food Service, from Al- Icntown, faced difficulties at the start of the fall semester, adjustments were made and students were more satisfied. Special night dinners broke up the monotony of roast beef, fish, and pasta with tomato sauce. The most popular was steak night, including onion rings and baked potatoes with sour cream. Other successful special nights included Halloween dinner, picnic night, Valentine ' s Day dinner, and fast food night. Ticket punching became obsolete once the 20 computerized meal tickets were introduced to the Commons. Though the word error lit up quite often, the system proved to be time- saving and accurate in the long run. Whether the food be good or bad, the Com- mons is the place to satisfy those hunger pangs encountered by all.
