This year in the extracurricular study of selling and retailing, members of the Distributive Educa- tion Club heard Robert Sparks, Bonnie Condra, John Thompson, D. W. McPheeters and several others speak about that subject. Then to learn even more, the club traveled to Indianapolis and visited a large store there. At Christmas-time the club prepared a Christmas basket. To increase the funds in its account, it sold candy and pins. In February several members at- tended the Distributive Education Convention at Illinois. Also in February was the annual Apprecia- tion Banquet. Larry Johnson was president, Ann Hall, vice-presi- dent, Starr Sare, secretary, and Pat Grisson, treas- urer. Mr. V. W. Babb sponsored the club. The business world today offers many opportuni- ties to those proficient in typing, shorthand, and salesmanship. This was clearly evident in the speeches given by outside speakers to the Commer- cial Club during their meetings. The club also made some trips to business estab- lishments, conducted a good will project, and en- joyed a skating party and a Christmas party. A scholarship was awarded to a graduating senior who plans to continue in the business field. Officers for this year were: Judy Pruett, presi- dent, Sharon Hankins, vice-president, and Anne Moore, secretary. Mrs. Martha Hanna sponsored this club. Conventions Here We Come . . . Christmas caroling for elderly people, attending the Indiana University student Christmas program, and a party at Miss Kunz's house gave depth and joy to the Future Homemakers of America at Christmas time. One of their most important projects was the fund raising campaign to earn money for their scholar- ship which was presented on honor day to a senior planning to major in home economics. Selling Christ- mas cards was the main source of income for this project. Also, in connection with a state project, they supported a war orphan. Then traveling to Salem in the fall and Georgetown in the spring, they at- tended the district conventions. Leadership was provided by Carol Walden, presi- dent, Marlene Walls, vice-presidentg Brenda Whaley, FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA- fFront Rowl left to right: S. Bush, M. Walls, M. Kirk, B. Whaley, C. Future Farmers of America experienced a busy year plus extensive traveling. Proof of this was the program of work established for their meetings whereby members were divided into eight com- mittees. Each committee prepared its own goal and the ways and means of achieving it. On the road they attended district meetings, a dis- trict contest at Columbus, an officer's training school at Hancock Central, and the all-important state convention at Lafayette. These many activities were directed by Jim Mus- grave, presidentg Dick Francis, vice-president, Allan Easterday, secretary, Gary Fishel, treasurer, and Mr. Justin Graves, sponsor.
