With uKey to Knowledgew as the theme for this yearis activities, the Future Teachers of America had many interesting programs. Dr. Carl Stewart, sponsor of Cadet Teachers, spoke on the qualifications of a good teacher particularly those of a cadet teacher. At another meeting, a panel of student teachers from Indiana University gave pointers on how to choose the subject and field for which one is qualified. Leaders in these activities were Carol Morgan, presidentg Marceta Binkley, vice-presidentg Gloria Faris, secretaryg Sharon Metcalf, treasurerg and Miss Merle Gilstrap, sponsor. The Photo Club trained interested students to print and develop pictures. Did you ever notice the photo exhibits that were posted in the main hall by this club? These pictures were national contest winners. The officers: Butch Helms, president, Bill Pritchett, vice-presidentg and Nancy Ennis, secretary-treasurerg were aided by Mr. Cosser, sponsor. The Art Club presented a scholarship and medallion to the most outstanding senior in art and to the most promising student in art this school year. Since the club had a larger number of members than in past years, its activities were more extensive. One ofthe club's biggest projects was helping to decorate for the All-School Dance. A great help in the planning and carrying out of this work was lVlrs. Rabb, sponsor. The officers for this school year were Bill Bruce, presidentg and Gloria Faris, vice-president. This year in the extracurricular study of selling and retailing, members of the Distributive Educa- tion Club heard Robert Sparks, Bonnie Condra, John Thompson, D. W. McPheeters and several others speak about that subject. Then to learn even more, the club traveled to Indianapolis and visited a large store there. At Christmas-time the club prepared a Christmas basket. To increase the funds in its account, it sold candy and pins. In February several members at- tended the Distributive Education Convention at Illinois. Also in February was the annual Apprecia- tion Banquet. Larry Johnson was president, Ann Hall, vice-presi- dent, Starr Sare, secretary, and Pat Grisson, treas- urer. Mr. V. W. Babb sponsored the club. The business world today offers many opportuni- ties to those proficient in typing, shorthand, and salesmanship. This was clearly evident in the speeches given by outside speakers to the Commer- cial Club during their meetings. The club also made some trips to business estab- lishments, conducted a good will project, and en- joyed a skating party and a Christmas party. A scholarship was awarded to a graduating senior who plans to continue in the business field. Officers for this year were: Judy Pruett, presi- dent, Sharon Hankins, vice-president, and Anne Moore, secretary. Mrs. Martha Hanna sponsored this club.
