Admittance into the NATIONAL HONOR SO- CIETY is one of the highest goals a student at Bloom- ington High School can attain. Members are elected by faculty vote on the basis of scholarship, character, service, and leadership. Seniors in the upper fourth of their Class and juniors in the upper tenth of their class are eligible for membership in this society. Since the foundation of the B.H.S. Chapter in 1927, the member- ship has gradually grown to approximately 815 meme hers. The newly elected members are initiated during an impressive senior high convocation. Members from the previous year speak on the foundation principles of the society and present pins to the imitates. The JUNIOR-SENIOR HI-Y this year present- ed a banner which was placed in the boys, gym. They also sponsored a pep session in February. The officers were John Parker, president; Steve Parrish, Vice-presi- dent; David Figg, secretary-treasurer; Howard Bruce, point secretary; and Mickey Douglas, chaplain. Mr. John Snepp was the sponsor. The FRESHMAN-SOPHOMORE HI-Y helped to co-sponsor the 1957 Mile of Pennies drive. The amount was presented to the Salvation Army at a sen- ior high convocation in November. The officers were Dick Sparks, president; Arthur Brown, Vice-president; John Barrow, secretary; George Brown, treasurer; and Ronald Pedro, chaplain. Mr. Clyde Black was the spon- sor. Co-ordinating the branches of the HI-YHand plan- ning combined activities were the functions of the HI- Y FEDERATION. This organization represented the entire YMCA system at B. H. S.
