The Freshman-Sophomore Hi-Y Club is a branch of the Y.M.C.A. founded for freshman and sopho- more high school boys. On becoming a member, a boy must earn enough points by helping in Gray-Y work, attending church, and by taking part in meet- ings to keep his membership in the club. This year, speeches were given by Miss Elizabeth Dodds, guidance counselor, and Dr. D. I.. Simon, principal. Other activities included a dance, partici- pation in a clothing drive, and repairing auditorium seats. A used clothing drive for the Public School Welfare Department was one of the most important activities of the 7th and 8th Grade Torch Club. These Torch Clubs are junior high branches of the Y.M.C.A. This year for the first time the Torch Club has been divided into two clubs, the 7th Grade and 8th Grade Torch Clubs. Presidents for the clubs were Dickie Sparks, 7th grade, and David Williams, 8th grade. The sponsor of the 7th Grade Torch Club is Mr. Loren Page, and Mr. Earl Graves sponsors the Sth Grade Torch Club. The Distributive Education Club was organized in the fall of 19-46, It was called the Future Retailers. The name was changed in 1948 to conform to the Dis- tributive Education Clubs of this state and nation. Membership is open to students who are enrolled in Retail Selling. The highlight of the year was the Employer-Employee Appreciation Banquet which was held in April. Oflicers were Ronald Drake, presidentg Philip Burch, vice president, Shirley Harmon, secretary, Joyce Brown, treasurer. The sponsor is Mr. V. W. Babb.
