BASKE'l'l3AllL lVhen Ralph Esarey started building a basket ball team last fall he faced a hard job. Vorrell and Farmer were the only letter 111011 from last year, but as the season went on. the leading' sport writeis in Indiana picked Bloomington as one of the better lllf'lllll0l'S of the Big Ten. Blooiningrton lost the first granie of the year, to Lyons. bnt the Purple 031110 baek in old time form in the next game, and trouneed Orleans. In their early season rush. even the strong llreeneastle and Colnmlnis qnintets failed to stop the loeals. Then Hlooniington journeyed to Shelbyville, and tasted the first real defeat of the season. Martinsville added to the sorrow in the Purple 9811113 by annex- ing a galne by two lone field goals. Before one of the largest erowds of the year, the Purple lost to Bedford on the l'niversity floor. The after Christmas games saw the Esarey nlen in their top form. Gaines were lost and wo11 to Yineennes and Franklin. Another game was lost to Bedford. The season elosed at Martinsville on February 29, when the C0l'1'i'llIll0ll lost to the present state ehainns by a margin of six points. Dillon Geiger will pilot the team next year. lVith Neal, Hall, Moser, Smith, Yan Dyke and Atwood haek next year and with some of the men from the seeonds, the prospei-ts for a winning team are bright.
