XVhile in this building the tirst high school annual was issued. lt was called the Gcthic lccauzse of the st5le of architecture of the building. The name was retained ly the later Senior classes. During the passng years the course of study and the number of teachers in thc high school had inatcrially increased. Reading. writing and arithmetic were not the only things taught in Bloom- ington swhools. lndustry, patience, patriotism, fellowship and all the fine qualities of worth-while men and women were impressed upcn them. These teachings manifested themselves when the Civil War broke out. Mnnroe f'oun'y sent over two thousand men to fight against slavery.
