Lettermen Keep Themselves Busy It can surely be said that this year's Letter' men Club .kept themselves busy both off and on campus, from the beginning of the year with Wuater Sports-banquet, to the last Wann school months which made after school activif ties popular. The club was headed by Presi' dent Ray Abeyta and VicefPresident Mark Washburn, Robert Garcia served as Secretary for the organization. Cross Age Teaching Really Works The program of crossfage teaching has been around in 'the school for many, many years, but, it has only been recently that students at Bloomington have been transport' ed to the local elementary schools as aides. Crossfage is a class instructed by Mrs. Verna Wheaton, but the actual teaching isleft to the students of the class. They work with the youngsters, help the children to read, write, and even play with them if time or need permits. The teaching is relaxed. There isn't any of the pressures existing Where the stu' dent must hurry. It shouldn't have to be that way . . . education should be fun, and the teacher's aides are realizing that immediately. It sneaks upon us in little commonplace ways-in habit and routine. We can only conquer it by doing different things, like a twofmile race out in the open country, seeing the land, smelling the green trees, and feeling the wind rushing past our face. It's the feeling of freedom one gets that makes CrossfCountry what it is. Combine the experienced leadership of Coach Rogers and a group of young runners who are eager to improve themselves, and you'll come up with the 1972 Bloomington CrossfCountry Team. A team that most convincingly proved themselves with many out' standing performances, including their two strongest wins over league opponents, Yucaipa and Cajon High School. Leading the Captain Nelson counts ,em off. Bruin squad impressively was Junior Mark Washbtlrn, Captain of the team for two consecutive years. Coach Rogers was assisted by David Stauffer. Our new queen Madolyn was chosen from sixteen other girls that each of the couples voted on as they entered the dance. The happiness Madolyn expressed was felt throughout the room as she was seated on the throne to reign throughout the rest of the dance. The theme for this year's event was Love Is Togethernessf' which proved very Htting, while 'Cloudy Days provided the music. 9' Love Is Togethernessi' is shown here. Madolyn takes her place on the throne to reign as our new queen. The long gown isn't as cumbersome as some think as Cindy Connell moves '45 easily to the music. 5 g F N f A W aff. The Bruins, greatly improved over last year, displayed a potent offense and a stout defense in accumulating a 3 win f 4 loss record. Under the leadership of Coach Don Lee and his assistants off the field, and Quarterback Ron Lewis on the Held, the team Hnished 4th in an 8 team league. The final standings showed the Bruins V2 game out of 3rd and only 1 game away from 2nd place. Said Coach Lee of the team, we've got something started here, we have the ability to wm 5 or 6 ball games, but a lack of confidence is our only problem. When the 72973 basketball season started it seemed that the Bruins could possibly have been the team to beat in the SAL. This was due to the fact that all the players, with the exception of one, were on a successful LV. team coached by Steve Hickel,,who was to take over as the new varsity coach. However, things didn't quite work out as expected. Aff ter league ply started and the team dropped enough games to lose consideration for a top spot, morale began to slide and the team lost enthusiasm. Watchhlg them on the court, one could tell that the spark was gone and destined not to return in '73. Geffing fo know one anofher and 'lheir ways and moods, and being able fo communi- cafe wifhouf yelling or blowing up was fhe sfep fhaf broughf us much closer fo reaching our goal. The person specifically responsible for geffing us fogefher was Miss Pafi Ishida. Wifhouf her creafive ideas and deferminafion fo use fhose ideas fhe '73 Bruin would prob- ably be sfill incomplefe and sfuffed on some shelf in room 75. Buf her push is iusf one of fhe memories we will have on our iourney - fhe journey fo a place full of new advenfures, buf wifh sfill a memory of fhe pasf . . , iusf one of our sfops on fhe 'road fhaf will fake us Closer fo Home .... Karen Luian 200 l ini fhe making of a school yearbook one comes across many problems. lf is like a iourney across an unknown land .... ahead are problems and fensions which creafe 'lhe mounfing pressures one has never felf before. Wifh differenf fime limifs and expecfafions, a deep feeling of obligafion and unsure- nessiovercomes one. , I Once again fhe Publicafions Class of '73 experi- enced 'lhese feelings, buf by working fogefher we overcame many barriers. From fhese experiences we all learned many fhings abouf each ofher, and found fhaf af many 'limes fhere were many differences in our opinions. ' One cannof describe fhe feeling felf affer fhe final complefion of a yearbook. For in fhis acf you have also finished fhe iourney fhaf you sef ouf fo conquer in fhe beginning. There are far foo many individuals fhaf helped make fhis fask so much easier, so l will only say many 'lhanks and wish upon you beffer fhings. My reward will be fhe complefion of fhis book, and yours will be in knowing fhis would noi' have been possible wifhouf your supporf. l would like fo es- pecially say many fhanks fo our advisor Miss Ishida, our phofographers, Mr. Myers and Dale Jones, and our annual publisher, Jack Cannicoff. To you, fhe sfudenfs of Bloomingfon High, l only hope fhaf you have enjoyed if, and fhaf fhe experi- ences you haye viewed and read abouf will long con- figiue fo be a parl' of fhe memories fha'l' come wifh 1 e. lf has offen been said fhaf a book becomes greaf nof when if is good or bad - buf only when if absolufely cannof be ignored. For 'lhe '73 BRUIN fhaf began in fhe year ninefeen-hundred and sevenfy- fhree and hopefully will long confinue fo be as such. Juvenfino Valdez Wifh'much work ahead of us fhe Annual sfarfed working on a book. This book will be people make if, or do nof make if. For if will be whaf ofhers make if for fhem. For if will be nofhing, fhey will look af if and see if again. Ofhers will be able fo look fh if and see friends -and remember awards and complishmenfs fhey have gained for fhemselves. During fhis year a few people will receive awards and recognifion which fhey do nof care abouf. These individuals realize fhaf fh nof deserve or wanf fhe award, buf wanf name menfioned. 4 Unfil fhis year, I was never concerned scholarships were disfribufed. Affer a while began wondering how Girl and Boy Sfafe r senfafives, Bank of America, and ofher a which are given fo individual sfudenfs. - Wifh a liffle bif of researching, l have covered an explanafion, buf if is far from answer. Boys' Sfafe selecfion is fhe new ASB Pres I wonder, whaf would happen if we elecfed a ASB Presidenf? Girls' Sfafe selecfion is done fhe feachers. Wifh fhis sysfem, you have fwo ferenf ways of selecfing 'ihese yfwo people. feachers selecf one and fhe sfudenfs fhe ofher A new fhing l learned abouf fhis year is of America Award winners. Selecfion is done deparfmenf chairmen, and some of fhe fee never have a chance fo submif sfudenfs I fhey feel deserve fhe honor. lf should go f fhan fhe deparfmenf chairmen: all fhe fee should make fhe decision. Now for fhe really fouchy parf, scholar Mosf people would love fo receive, a schola buf for many differenf reasons. Some really fhe help fo go fo college, while ofhers wanf collecf fhem as honorable mefhods of re: fion, and never use any of fhem. l feel fhe arship should be awarded by anofher mefhod quesfion is should if be given fo 'fhe one wifh hiqllesf grade poinf average or fo fhe person a high grade poinf average and desire? , The discovery of fhese fhree fhings were by ac cidenf, and one cannof wonder'if fhe mefhods o sfudenf recognifion is fhe fairesf way. Perhaps i 'fhe coming years, you as confinuino BHS sfudenf can fry fo improve selecfion mefhods menfione above and in ofher areas. Since fhis is really fhe place fhaf fhank you: always go, l would like fo fhank mosf of all Mis: Ishida, wifhouf her many hours of work affei school and on weekends, and her much needeo knowledge, we would sfill be 'frying fo puf if al fogefher. . l would also like fo fhank Dale Jones, Rob Myers, and fhe loyal fiffh period phofography class, especially, Richard Wilkerson. And fhe mosf fhanks goes fo 'fhe sfaff of BRUIIX '73 wifhouf These fine, hard-working people There would noi' be an annual. l So now wifh all fhe work in back of us, we sincerely hope you enioy fhe '73 BRUIN.
