End of an Era The 1964-1965 school year has been one of the best in the eight year history of Bloomington High School. In many areas—scholarship, sports, extracurricular activities and service to the community—the Bears excelled. Setting new records and maintaining high standards, the students of this school have won city-wide, statewide, and nationwide recognition for Bloomington. With so many achievements, excitement ran high. There was, however, a note of sadness. Throughout the year, the emphasis was on the last time . Together we celebrated Bloomington's last homecoming and watched the last united senior class graduate. Next year, with the opening of John F. Kennedy High School and with this school changing its name to Lincoln, students will be divided. Bloomington High School will cease to exist. Students, teachers and alumni find it difficult to imagine this city with more than one senior high. Many can remember how spacious the present building seemed when it opened in 1957. Yet our rising population in the last years has indicated a need for more classrooms. This year, a record number of 2,932 students was divided between the main building and the annex. These students, working together, made 1964-1965 an exciting, spirited, and memorable year, a fitting End of an Era .
