VOCAL GROUPS Enthusiasm has grown tremendously these past years for the extra- curricular activity, chorus. There is only one draw-back in chorus, and that is the fact that there are only sixty-five robes and consequently only sixty-five members can be admitted into the group. Two days out of every week the majority of the senior high girls can be found in the Glee Club organization. Since all the girls have worked hard and shown interest in singing, they hope that this organization has provided entertainment in all the programs in which they have participated. The nonette under the guidance of Mrs. Anderson has built up a reper- toire of old standards which they enjoy working into a medley when they are asked to entertain at various programs. The octet is composed of eight senior boys this year. Mrs. Anderson keeps them occupied with novelty tunes. For the first time, a boys quartet is being formed this year. The girls quartet is functioning in much the same as it has in previous years. Soph- omores have been forming similar ensembles in order to fill the shoes of the graduating seniors. 44 9 BACK ROW: Jerry Gleixner, Robert Clark, Donald Dale, Francis Koch, Richard Fenn, John Figi, Michael Mc- Mullen, Lowell Johnson, John Bailey, Frank Pahl, Philip Gilderhus. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC Mr. Shannon, music director, has been the main source of inspiration for all the accomplishments which the band has shown in the past year. The music selections that the band are playing are composed of marches, novel- ties, syrriphonic excerpts and more modern composers works. The Theater Band is a group of pupils taken from the main band that plays at various functions. The jazzy part of the main band is the Dixiecats which is composed of five members. The smaller ensembles are as follows: clarinet trio, trumpet trio, flute quartet, and the horn quartet. As there are many openings in these ensembles after this year the junior high students have been quick to follow in their footsteps. Along with the candy sales, and magazine drive, contributions from the people of the comrnunity have enabled them to provide themselves with much of their own equipment. Bloomington along with Austin and Hopkins were rated the three top bands in the state rat the 1952 state contest. 48 'H Ari BACK ROW Gerald Munson James Hem R1chard Kossow R1chard Elhs Arthur Newell Dennls Nelson Roger Peder son John Thellan Drane Huth Patrrcta Ununen Gary Smrth MIDDLE ROW Marlene Melncke W1ll1am Noleen John Matala Donna Anderson Evelyn Ununen Jo Ann Nelson Drane Hecker lack Cooper Margaret Crane Janet Hem Beverly Yerkan Carolyn Holmes FRONT ROW Larry Roberts Dor1s H111 Ronald Seelye Ehzabeth George Larry Hlll Norman Anderson Donna Hardesty Susan Maxson Phyll1s Merts Beverly Rodger Martha Lukach Mar garet Maxson Helen DeVault BRASSSEXTET R1chard Kossow Jack Cooper Howard Kyllo Bev erly Johnson Rexd Olson Rodney Aabero 49 f il.- - C5 H '5'W ,. 1' ' . 5' -w-g - f , .2 I K 1 .
