enior lcaoo iotor U Remember fhose good old carefree days of our sophomore year? Of course, fhere were many embarrassing fimes-such as fhe fimes when we gof mixed up on fhe sfairways frying fo decide which side we should go down: fhe ele- vafor fickefs we boughf, only fo find fhere was no elevafor fo fake: and fhe many fimes we gof losf. If was nofhing buf confusion fhose firsf few days, buf affer a while, when we were used fo fhe building, we began fo fhink fhaf if was preffy sharp! lf wasn'f long before we began fo gef ac- quainfed wifh our new classmafes, especially affer fhe Gef Acquain'I'ed weiner roasf which nearly all 287 of us affended. Following fhis oufing, we began fhinking abouf class officers. Jim Hursf, presidenfg Jill Rorabach, veep: Judie Reinhard, secrefaryg and Lewis Garrison as freasurer were our final choices. We surely did impress fhe upperclassmen wifh our firsf all school parfy, given in Novem- ber. We fook parfs in fhe Chrisfmas assembly and ali school falenf show lwhich Jerry Udwin emceedl. In spife of spending so much fime on parfies and fhe like, we showed we had brains, foo, for we, as a class, had fhe highesf er- cenfage of honor roll sfuclenfs fhaf year. Then, George Sfarr and Jerry Udwin made good names for fhemselves and our class by winning an essay confesf on fhe Bill of Righfs, foo. Nof bad for iusf a beginning! Guidance books and movies made homeroom seem endless, lrememberl buf now fhaf we can look back on if, fhaf was preffy worfhwhile in- formafion. We learned quife a lof abouf our- selves, our personalifies, our money, and our sfudies. Well, whaf do you know? We were finally made upperclassmen. Whaf a fhrill! We had heard a lof abouf fhe business of fhe iunior class already, so we immediafely gof down fo business. We gof fhe ball rolling wifh a class elecfion and affer a long, hard cam- paign, if furned ouf fhaf Ron Aldridge was presidenf: Roger Anderson, vice presidenf: Judie Reinhard, secrefary: and Sue French, freasurer. Our fofal numbered 259 now and each one of us was required fo spend one whole day in fesfing. Af fhe fime, we felf preffy dragged ouf, remember? Buf when fhe resulfs came back, we were all rafher proud of ourselves, nof fo men- Hon being surprised! Connie Jo Ploense broughf one of fhe firsf honors fo our class fhaf year. She was elecfed secrefary of fhe Disfricf Sfudenf Council. Then, if wasn'f long before fhe Communify Players puf on Jenny Kissed Me and used Judy Bellamy, Karen Biddle, and Caryl Rosenfhal in fhe casf. Along in March, we elecfed our Sfudenf Council officers: Rod Sufer was elecfed presi- denfg Jim Hursf, vice presidenfg and Connie Jo Ploense was chosen secrefary-freasurer. Do you recall how hard we worked in fhe baseball concessions fhaf year? We had fo! We had fo puf on fhe prom for fhe illusfrious seniors. Wasn'f if wonderful? lf was held af Wesleyan and we used flowers for decorafions. Some of fhe seniors acfually were moved by fhe fhoughf of fheir lasf prom. Remember how silly we fhoughf fhey were? In May, George Sfarr, Ron Baumgardner, and Jill Rorabach broughf fame fo our class for win- ning fhe fhree prizes in a shorf sfory confesf for fhe Merwin Cup, fhe Inman Medal and fhe Rhymer Medal. All fhree were compefing againsf fhe besf wrifers of fhe senior class fhaf year - and our iuniors won! Before long, publicafions edifors were chosen. Karen Biddle and George Sfarr were fo be co- edifors of our senior yearbook, and Sue Peck- mann was selecfed edifor of fhe Aegis for 'I'he school year '53-'54. We were ready fo begin our senior year! We sfarfed our final school year wifh early elecfions, and affer some vigorous campaigning lremember all fhose posfers hung in fhe hall?l. Carl Bickel became our presidenfg Jerry Udwin, our vice-presidenfg Ann Armsfrong, our secre- faryg and Gene Thoele, our freasurer. A good percenfage of our 2I4 classmafes vofed. In December we lisfened fo fhe Sarafoga March, remember? Wriffen by Carl Bickel and Ron Baumgardnerg if seemed preffy greaf fo us. Homecoming was really special fhaf year 'fo us. Wasn I' fhe game fhrilling? lWe won!! And fhen fhe dance was really cool , fo puf if blunfly. We waxed a liffle senfimenfal foward fhe end of fhe evening, for, affer all, in only one year, we would be classified as Alumni! lf wasn'f long afferward when honor again came fo us. Connie Jo Ploense won fhe DAR award and Rod Sufer won fhe SAR award. Lafer on, fhe Nafional Honor Sociefy inifiafed senior scholars - fhere were 33 of fhem! The prom was even a liffle beffer fhan fhe one we gave lasf year, and cerfainly sadder, for fhis began our senior evenfs. The senior play was a memorable advenfure, and before we had fime fo forgef if, we were busy wifh fhe vespers, senior picnic, and banquef. Lasf of all came fhe never-fo-be-forgoffen nighf of Commencemenf. As we marched down fhe aisle, fhere were misfy eyes and slighfly lumpy fhroafs - buf we were graduafing af long lasf. We were ready fo go ouf info fhe world wifh fhe fufure ahead of us!
