0-,w LT. MARK EUGENE MILLARD was killed as a result of an air- plane crash near Washington, D. C., September 5, l943, while on active duty from his home field. The crash was caused by motor failure at a low altitude with no chance to bail out. Lt. Millard was a pilot of a Thunderbolt ' the U Army Air Forces He enlisted in ust 942 When a boy Milard won the Central Illinois Soap Box Championship and com peted in the International Soap Box Derby at Akron Ohio in l937 He last attended Bloomington high school in H40 Lt Millard was the son of Mr and Mrs Mark Millard of 06 N Fell Ave Y LT LOUIS F UTESCH was re ported missing in action March 28 I943 In North Africa Lt Utesch enlisted as an avra tion cadet and received his train ing at Corslcana Texas He re celved his wings in May I942 Louis graduated from Bloom lngton high school and later at tended lllmois Wesleyan Univer H as the son o Mr and Mrs Frank Utesch l009 S Main Street LT JOHN R GRAY of the Army Air Forces was reported missing in action since January l944 He was navigator on a Fly mg fortress Lt Gray received the Air Medal and two Oak Leaf Clusters Lt Gray enlisted Apnl I942 He was sent to Santa Anna Cal :forma and then to Williams Field Arizona where he was rated a distinguished bombadner He was then stationed in Monroe Louis :ana and classified as Navigator He was sent to Europe last Sep tember Lt Gray was born April 26 His mother Mrs W Gray resides at I07 E Locust vs: 'G .-fra LT. PETE GARDNER was re- ported killed near San Diego, California, July 22, I942. Lt. Gardner was a figter pilot in the United States Marine Corps Re- SEFVE, Lt. Gardner graduated from Bloomington high school in l92B. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University for one year Before en listing in l94I he held a pose on at the Bank of America Los An geles California Lt Gardner was born May I9 I9l6 an Bloomington He was the son of Mr and Mrs H P ard ne SI6 E Grove St LT ROBERT PARSONS First Pilot on a B I7 bomber has been missing since Oct 9 I943 when his Flying Fortress failed to turn from a mission over Aachen Germany Lt Parsons enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in l94I after completing two years of college at both Illinois Wes leyan University and Illinois State Normal University He graduated from Bloomington high school ln I9 . Lt. Parsons is the son of Mrs. Ada Parsons 708 W. Monroe St. and Thomas Parsons also of Bloomington. Robert was born May 25 I9l9 at Fancy Prairie Illinois. Page Five
