SENIOR PLAY The Senior Play, directed by Mrs. Parker, was presented in the high school auditorium on the even- ing of April 28, 1939. The play, entitled nLittle Jimmie Jonesn, was filled with the lively spirit of modern boys and girls about whom it centered. James Jodrel Jones Jr. Khick Yostl, known as ulittle Jimmie Jonesn, is faced at the age of nine- teen with the serious problem of choosing his life's work. He has large ideas, but they do not impress his father iMarion Boutwelll, who is very set in his ways. In fact his father Wsees redn every time Jim ie mentions his belief that all one needs to succeed in life is nerve and publicit . J1mmie's mother iMarjorie Willey? is in sympa- thy with her son and believes that he should be al- lowed to lead his own life instead of being forced into his father's grocery business as his father wishes e During his father's absence on a business trip, Jimmie proceeds to put his theory into practice. He arranges a series of personal appearances advertis- ing men's wear in a uniqle manner in the windows of the department store owned by Mrs. Davenport CEdna Henr J He is ottin alon well when some unfortu- Y - ' EW S S nate publicity with Gladys Glamour CNancy Gouldsmi a movie star, and her jealous fiance Van Dyke Van Horn lRussell-Wrightl, causes him to lose out en- tirely. Even his friends begin to doubt him, but a favorable turn of public sentiment caused'by a flat- tering article written about him by Nora Newman lVivian Obertl, an important newspaper columnist, changes everything. Jimmie receives a big-paying job, with eventual fame, and wins his fathor's ap- proval. The wise cracks and capers of Jimmie's friends Stuff CCharles Bartonl, 'abby CCarrie Langworthyl, Biff YMorr1son Orrl, Cuddles KGeraldine Tolanl, and Pickles CMarjorie Ongleyl--give the play all the charm of modern youth. After many difficulties, the amusing romance between Jimmie and Pickles finally ends well in spite of the interference of her snooty mother, Mrs. Prescott CLeora Mortonl. The Public Speaking Class and the Juniors, dir- ected by Mrs. Barker, presented a three act comedy, entitled ULaughing Irish Eyesn, on November 22, 1958 In the play, which sparkled with Irish wit and humor, Molly Shannon lMarjor1e Ongleyl, a charming young Irish girl, comes into the home of hardhearted and aristocratic Mrs. Oberon Cvivian Obertl to work as a housemaid. Because Molly's mother, Maggie ' Shannon CGertrude Dinel, is already employed there, Molly takes the name of Molly St. Clair. Maggie is suspicious of her daughter's scheme, since at the same time a new chauffeur arrives. He is Molly's fiance, Tom McFadden KPaul Northropl. ' Through the efforts of Molly and Tom Mrs. Ober- on's daughter, Marguerite CJulia Legnoskys, is saved from marriage to an unworthy scamp, Harry Ryan CRal- ph Wintonlg Myron Oberon CPaul Woodl, the son, is saved from the fortune seeking prima donna, Dolores Dawn CArloene VanTasselJg and happiness is brought to the Oberon household. The Dramatic Club helped to present this play. It also sent some of its members as contestants to the Forensic Contests held at Cambridge Springs. It plans to make purchases of some stage properties to be kept at the school for use in producing future plays. ORCHESTRA The Bloomfield Orchestra under the direction of Graham has furnished much entertainment through- out the year by playing at P.T.A. Meetings, at Assem- bly gatherings, at the Ford Memorial Chapel in Mead- ville, and at Farmer's Institute. The addition of several new members has helped it to succeed. CEEMOH CLUB Since the major project of the Ceemoh Club was to send delegates to the Farm Show, a candy sale, and a Banquet for Crawford County Principals were spon- sored as a means of earning money. As a result, nAp- ples On Paraden was presented January l7, at the Farm Show. Although the group d1dn't bring back the first prize, they did bring back a beautiful oil painting. The Club also sponsored a Banquet for the Faculty and School Board, a soup sale, and an Easter Egg Sale. Meeting on December 21. It was directed by these teachers: Hrs. Munn, Mrs. Rubright, Miss Buchanan, and Mrs. Grant. . The operetta presented a new and interesting version of the old Santa Claus story. Santa Claus lPaul Northrop! went on a sit-down strike because he had to work on Christmasg he demanded shorter hours and more attention. This appalling truth was dis- covered by two children, Donald fHaro1d Boutwelll and Dorothy CEdith Munnl, who had come to visit him. They promptly called a delegation of children from all over the world who came to visit Santa, bringing him the gifts of Christmas Joy CShirley Louise Laugh- eryl and Christmas Cheer fShirley Hay Laugheryl. This act of the ehildren's completely reformed Santa, and he went back on duty. The operetta closed with a dramatization of the Madonna and Christ Child scene by children from Mrs. Munn's room. Gther highlights of the play were: The Carpenters Song and The Seamstrcsses Song by - the boys and girls of Mrs. Grant's roomg The Snow- flakes Chorus and The Noisy Boys Song by the pupils in Miss Buchanan's and Hrs. Rubright's roomsg and Santa's solo. GLEE CLUB Under the direction of Mrs. Parker the high school girls' Glee Club spent a great deal of time practicing. At the beginning of the year it sponsor- ed a candy sale for the purpose of starting the fund for buying robes to use at public appearances. . At the Farmers' Institute, which was held here at the school building, the Glee Club sang several numbers. On the morning of the Forensic contests the club gave a short musical program in chapel. Then that evening it sang at the Crawford County Forensic R Music League in the Class C contest of choruses at Cambridge in the Methodist-Episcopal Church.
