Fortunately memories tend to be enjoy- able rather than distressing. One cannot, however, live on memories alone. Memories are valuable when they remind us of the deep commit- ments we have made, the strife we have endured, the friends who have inspired us, and the vision we have had for our future. Such memories are a constant spur to accomplishment and higher living. We hope that the memories induced by this book will be happy ones, but also that they will be reminders of that which is fine, noble, and good in life, Scenes Around School 1 J' 11, f ! l R Q 1 l yfi A .im new hung, . Taking a 69-68 decision from Brazil in the afternoon game and 61-60 decision from Covington in the final game was a Peak of Glory our Cardinals' many fans will not forget for manya year. The trophy our team won will take its place beside many other trophies repre- senting great moments our athletes have experienced. H. S, trophy case. It is dedicated to the late John Harry Laughlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira T, Cub Laughlin and a B, H, S, graduate of whom we are extremely proud. John Harry participated actively in school life at B, H, S, and was outstanding in athletics during his high school, college, and coaching days. He was on the B, H. S. football team, and played center on the basketball team that won the Wabash Valley in 1938, While attending Louisiana Tech, John Harry was a member of the football, basketball, baseball, and tennis teams. In 1941 and 1942, he was named All Southern Forward. John Harry also participated in the Kentucky tournament and had two Kansas City invitations. John Harry was a lieutenant commander in the Navy and flew a TBF. During his navy career, he was awarded two distinguished flying crosses, four air medals, seven battle stars, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Later, as a member of the reserves, he flew in a patrol of planes across the Gulf of Mexico once every three weeks. On January 19, 1957, John Harry started on his usual journey and was never seen again, Small remnants of the plane were found in the Gulf. The trophy was presented to B, H, S, in honor of John Harry by his brother, Chester Laughlin, and family, who reside in Williamson, West Virginia. Each year an outstanding senior boy will be given the John Harry Laughlin Award and will receive a small trophy as well as having his name engraved on the large trophy. The award is to be given to a senior boy who has achieved major success in athletics and other activities. The coach, the principal, and the senior class sponsors are to be the judges. The award was presented for the first time on B, H. S. Honor Day, May, 1959, to Ronald Richmond. QS! Q , 'lf . V .1 ti, . ,,.jw , 55 4 L 'K f 1 '. if , 4. A i y F ?.. PICTURE NOT AVAILABLE: David Norris Our Commencement Ninety-four members of the class of 1960 heard a commencement address by Dr. G, F, Kneisel in the gymnasium. Dr. Kneisel spoke on Freshmanship, The primary meaning of Freshmanship is, to quote Dr, Kneisel, that the perennial freshman always adds to his knowledge and retains the charm that is lost in the auto-endowment of profound maturity, Dr. Kneisel is now a practicing chiropractor, He has been speaking professionally for the past seven years, Maryanna Overpeclc and Kay Badollet gave valedictory and salutatory addresses respectively. -v 'Q' SPEA KE R VALE DICTORIA N sALuTA TORIAN 84 Underclossme I1 Y .........., -A-mug gfm' + if Nz Q s , my 'Q A me it Xi if Eg Q1 Q 4 Junior Closs ax! , ?
