At B.H.H.S. we participate actively in the athletics program. We join teams in order to de- velop our individual skills. The first two games the Barons were ineffective against first place, Northville and third place, Brighton. Things improved, however, under the direction of Coach Hoff, and our team won the next three games in a row, downing Clarcznceville, Milford, and Holly, in that order. The next game was a difficult one for the team. They almost overcame a 21 to 0 halftime deficit, only to fall short hy two points, Zl-l9. As the final gun sound- ed, the Barons were in possession of the ball on West Bloomfields seven-vard line. The last two games, one against Holly and Home- coming against Clarkston were victories for the Barons, leaving them with an impressionable 5 and 3 record and fourth place in League standinv. The early contests gave little encouragement to the Varsity team, while the J.V.ls were more successful in winning games against league competition. However, the ex- cellent reports of the athletic program at the new junior High School. coupled with the success of the J.V. team, seem to indicate some banner years ahead for the Barons in competitive sports. Hard drives, good stick- work, and close team play proved a successful formula for a winning record. The first team began the season by defeating Water- ford and Harper Woods in two successive days, 5-1 and 9-0. After a three-day break, they suffered their only loss to Grosse Pointe University School by a score of 2-0. A nine-day rest did them much good as they came back to overcome their next three opponents: Kings- wood, Sacred Heart and Waterford, and end the season with a five and one record. They also placed three members of their squad on the All-Star team. Lucy Barnes and Pat Johnson were on the starting team, while Laura Tucker joined the reserves Miss Deschaine, who coached the girls, rewarded their efforts with pizza. The second team played the same opponents Qwith the exception of Harper Vifoodsl and won two, tied two and lost one. They scored a season's total of eleven goals to their opponents four. The second team also had 'hree munbers who joined the All Stars. Bev Pollock played on the second team, while Mary Jocelyn and Chris Klintworth received honorable mention. A good season and a good future is apparent from these results. Shirley Smith races down field for a goal attempt. As individuals our interests differ widely and consequently we fill our after school hours with a great variety of extracurricular activities. Work- ing together on class projects we make new friends and gain a deeper understanding of our class- mates. Rooring for our team at a foothall game, a track meet, or a hoclcey tournament we find a healthy outlet for pent-up energy and an increased sense or pride in our school. In various clubs we develope our particular talents, learn more about fields which interest us, and enjoy the fun of social- izing together. Through these experiences we are gaining the social poise and good sportsmanship essential to a well-rounded personality. Today's graduates are entering an exciting new era where they will live better electrically in every way ...at home, at work, or at play. For example, if you choose marriage, you can enjoy an all-electric home. Included will be electric heat, built-in electric range and refrigerator and a host of time-saving, economical electric appliances. They will be the ultimate in modern living comfort and convenience. Or, if you go into business, efficient electrically operated machines will assist you in getting the iob done swiftly and easily-again an illustration of the versatility and dependability of electricity. Or, if you go on to college, perhaps you will become one of the scientists or technicians who help further mold the all-electric world of the future.
